Talking Remote Start

I was just wondering if anybody has a Remote Start on their cl-p auto, cl-s auto, or their cl-s manual? I am thinking about getting it done in the near future but i haven't seen or herd about it on out cars, what systems are the best or what do you have on yours?
Thanks Scott

I had a Viper 550ESP on my old 02 CLS. Worked fine.
Only issue with any aftermarket alarm on the CL/TL is you have to ground out the factory alarm. Or else it may go off unexpectedly. Simply hooking up the factory disarm wire does not do it. The wire is a blue wire that goes into the drivers door, & into that little flashing security light.

I've got a Compustart Remote Start on my CLS6. Good point about grounding out the factory. I dont think the place that installed mine did that cuz it goes off if I autostart the car before disabling the alarm. It's not bad though. I unlock it, autostart it and then lock it while it's running. All are still done remotely so it doesn't hurt.

Ground out the factory alarm & I'd bet you won't have a problem. And may have been a crap installer.

You can program the alarm to unlock the doors then start the car and then relock them by itself. That is how I had it set up when I had a Legend. I would probally just ground out the factory alarm to save the hassle if I put one on my CLS. I have had many DEI remote start setups and have had no problems.

There are a few out there that have the safety features built in for manuals. IMHO I would only install 1 of these & not let any shop "rig" a system to work.

I had a generic one installed for like 400, a long long time ago, but i spilled jumba juice on it (dont ask) and went back to the stock key fob.

Its pretty neat to have, all my friends would get annoyed because I would show off, and use it every time

Is there any way to configure the remote start system to work off of the Acura FOB... say by pressing the panic button?

Ground out the factory alarm & you won't have this problem. You only need the 1 RS key fob. Do it yourself. It's not hard to take the door panel off.

honestly a remote start is a remote start, its who installs it. I bought my CLS with the autostart and im glad it has it, started it the other day when it was about 36 degrees out and it started right up. My remote start system is Valet, which is jsut a branch company of Viper and Auto Command i believe. I woudl stay away from auto command my old car had it and it sucks. Plus if ur car is a manual its pointless to buy the remote start. i here stories of people doin it and leavin the car in gear it..itll tryn start hoppin..my neighbor put his maxima through the fence with a remote start on a manual

unhook or cut the blue wire & screw it to a ground source. Like a metal body panel.

I installed my remote starter myself and I didn't ground the alarm out in the driver's door. Instead I disconnected the hoodpin and used a piece of wire to connect the two pins on the harness. This also causes the factory alarm to be disarmed and I thought it was much easier then taking the door off. Took less then 10 minutes to do. Also, FYI remote starts for manuals have safety features that will not allow the car to start if it is in gear (if the remote start is installed properly by an installer that knows what they are doing).

But then doesn't that defeat the hood pin switch? So if someone pops the hood the alarm will not go off even with the aftermarket.
Takes less time to take the door panel off. Once you do it once it's not a big deal.

Most alarms have shock sensors thats are sensitive enough to detect someone opening your hood. Granted it doesn't work as well as a hood pin switch itself but it does the job.

Yes, but your installing an aftermarket so you want it disabled.

The chip in the key is a different system & is not effected.

Yes. On most cars this should not happen, but the CL/TL is different for some reason. Once you ground out the stock Blue wire the stock system will completely not work.

there should be a wire from the after market remote starter that will send a neg pulse when you try to remote start your car. if you tap that wire to the blue factory wire, it will disengage ur factory alarm far that split second only. keeping ur factory alarm fully functional. that's if you want to keep both. if ur remote starter does not come with that wire, i would recommend you buy one that does. most of them should since that what installers use to bypass the clutch on manuals.

That's how it should work.
However the CL/TL it doesn't work with for some reason.
Factory disarm will not completely disarm the factory alarm. This will cause problems with certain features of the stock & aftermarket alarm causing the factory to go off when it shouldn't.

I'll have to check the manual. I thought it was blue, but that was on an 02. Maybe the 03 color is different.

sometimes system will send neg pulses back and forth. put a diode in line which will allow charge to flow one way only and it should not randomly set off the factory alarm.

It's not that the alarm is randomly set off, what happens is if the car is remote started and the factory alarm is armed, it won't be disarmed. For some reason aftermarket alarms can't disarm the factory alarm even when the factory disarm wire is connected. The diode stops false alarms, which I don't think is the actual problem.
