Rear view mirror...weird!
Rear view mirror...weird!
Ok, this is a bit weird!
I got into my car the other day....(2001 CL, black/black/auto trans 135,000 miles)
...started it , and went to back out of the driveway, so I reached for the gear selector to put it in reverse....and when I looked at the gear selector and shifter plate..there was this hardened black "goo" all over it...looked like someone had dripped tar all over it! WTF??? So...I looked at where it could have come from...and I saw this hardened drip coming from the bottom seam of the rear-view mirror.
It seems whatever "goo" is inside the mirror (for the auto-dimming stuff I guess) leaked out and then hardened.
Well...probably more like melted out. We have been in the middle of a heat wave here in SoCal..over 100* for a few days..and the car does stay on the uncovered driveway...black car, black interior, 100+ degrees...VERY HOT!
And now the mirror looks kinda weird...i can see that there is a spot behind the glass that looks like something drained away from it. It still works OK, just looks weird! And...that goop is almost impossible to remove from the shifter plate. I'm afraid if I try and peel it off with a razor blade, it'll remove paint and/or scratch the plate!
Anyone else ever heard of anything like this?
