Helms help... please!
Helms help... please!
Guys.... can someone please scan the 4-5 pages that detail the clutch install on the 6-speed - especially the first page which specifies the special tool(s) required for the pressure-plate install. Unfortunately the same problem that happened to me last time happened again and I need to ask Acura if they used that tool during the install. This just opens that entire can of worms again!
Please PM me for my e-mail.

Man that stinks!! Weren't they the ones that told you about the tool? Or did Comptech tell you when the first one went? I would find a way to ask the tech before the dealership figures out they need to cover their ass on this. Talk to the tech and ask him something like "Do you guys have any of those pressure plate tools for sale?" There was another guy who just had this done at the same dealer by the same mechanic. I wonder if his problems are related to this.

Comptech told me about the pressure-plate tool and I even asked Acura 101 when I took the car there... stating that the reason I am bringing it to them was because I didn't have that tool.
EIther way... its not supposed to break!
I help people out when they need it with scans from my book, but you cheap bastards
really need to go out and BUY the book if you’re under the hood a lot.
It’s a no-brainer to spend 65-bucks for this awesome publication.

PS…. It has over 2,200 pages and if hosted here it would bring the server to its knees.

Yup... stinks isn't the word. I don't want to readily assume its the dealership error... but it sure looks like it. I will try to ask the tech (I met the guy) how they install it. The problem will be if they don't 'fess up if they did make a mistake.

Could someone rescan the pics for me. I took the tranny out last night and I would like to see how they go about using the special tool. And is it absolutely necessary to use it? This is my first time hearing about a special tool needed for a clutch job.
Help please
Anyways, from my understanding is that the tool just evenly applies pressure throughout the pressure plate when being installed, is this correct? If that's the case, can't you just install it without the tool very carefully and torque each bolt 1/4 turn at a time. Even though it'd take forever, wouldnt it be one way of getting around from having to wait to order this tool?

forget the tool, remove every other bolt completely, then slowly back out the remaining bolts slowly and equally, presto. install the same way, equally drawing the pressure plate back into position.

I can't believe some of you guys that are mod crazy don't have the helms... I'm stock and I've already gotten my money's worth out of it...
My life has revolved around a garage the past 5 years. Only because of the fact that I've heard of this tool having to be absolutely necessary to use to change the pressure plate freaked me out. I've must have changed over 13 clutches/pp's with my friends already and have never heard of this special tool that is a must. Helms is a handy thing to have, but the internet usually makes up for it.
Did you guys ever get the chance to scan the pages? It'd be useful for the swap i'm doing right now. I don't have the money to get the manual since I have to rush and get all of these other parts before school's over.
Got this off the Chilton library online
Removal & Installation
Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Remove the transaxle assembly from the vehicle.
Insert a clutch alignment tool. Use a feeler gauge and measure the clearance between the pressure plate spring fingers and the clutch alignment disc. There should be a maximum of 0.02 in. (0.6mm) of clearance for a new pressure plate with 0.03 in. (0.8mm) limit for a used pressure plate. If the height is more than the . service limit, replace the pressure plate.
Remove the clutch alignment disc.
Install a flywheel holder to aid in the removal of the pressure plate and clutch disc.
Matchmark the flywheel and pressure plate for easy reassembly. Remove the pressure plate bolts in a crisscross pattern 2 turns at a time to prevent warping the plate.
Remove the pressure plate, then the clutch disc with the alignment shaft.
To install:
Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure, while using the following torque values:
Flywheel mounting bolts: 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm) for 5-speed transaxles or 90 ft. lbs. (122 Nm) for 6-speed transaxles
Pressure plate bolts: 19 ft. lbs. (25 Nm)

Is this the helms manual everybody has? I'm looking to buy it for my head gasket replacement over the weekend.
