Rear Main Oil Seal Leak???
Looked out in my driveway and saw some oil. So I look under the CL-S6 and see more oil. Looks like it's coming from where the block and gearbox meet. I'm coming up on 27k miles and I hope the dealer doesn't have a problem with the SC.

Thanks Matt.
You're right. I've searched and it doesn't look like too many posts on the issue. Hope the dealer has seen it before. I ran it up hard a few times today but I doubt that would cause it to fail.

Where is my super sauce?
I know a few people have posted on this same issue.
There's an old 2001 TSB for all Honda J-blocks for a leaking rear main seal. I'm not sure if it applies in this case.

I had the same issue or at least I thought I did, the area under the car seemed like it was soaked with oil. I took the car to the dealer, they said they couldn't find anything. About 4000 miles+ I don't see any issue and oil levels haven't decreased either. On the other hand, my gear shifting has become sooo smooth ever since I got the car back from them. No 1->2 notchiness, even in the cold. Keep us updated.
Oh another thing, the area under the car doesn't have the oil soak anymore.

I had my rear main seal replaced on mine at 60k miles. Wasn't discovered till I had my replaced , Since they already had transmission out I saved on labor, Bill was 235dollars, also had oil pan leak so they replaced seal for that as well.

It was my Rear Main Seal that was leaking oil. Fresno Acura is definitely taking care of me and I appreciate their service. I was concerned that having the SC would cause a problem but they're replacing it under warranty as they don't think the SC would cause the seal to fail. I'm paying the additional labor to remove the blower which I think is more than fair.

I had my rear main seal replaced around 70000 miles, did not have warranty so I had to pay 800 bucks or something like that to fix it. Well 8 months or 15,000 miles later started leaking again. Took it back to John Eagle Acura, they gave me some bs that Acura would only pay 80% of bill and wanted me to pay 270 dollars to make up the difference. The service manger told me warranty is 12000 miles or 1 year on parts and labor, he explained that he took personal interest in my car. Had car apart to verify seal did not have any cracks or installed improperly, he said there was no problems with either, so he wanted 270 to put new ring in. At this point I was very unhappy with Acura. I just called him back told him to decline repair, I was going to sell the car. He called me back saying dealership would take care of rest of bill, like he was doing me a favor, after 2 days of arguing with them. To me it should of not even been a issue of fixing what I already paid them to do, and plus the car was already apart, they should of told me to pay for seal which is like 20 bucks, and I would of been cool with that, but whatever.
Just thought id share that with you guys, but my comment is that I read somewhere that new seals do not seal well with synthetic oil. Is this true?

That happened way too many times to be normal wear and tear. Sounds like your crankshaft may be unbalanced causing uneven wear on that seal???

I've got my 45K mile service coming up, guess I should crawl under the car and check this out...
I was hoping to have a list of things to get down before the warranty ran out, but my 6spd has been pretty good so far
Just need them to adjust the parking brake...

I had this checked by my mechanic before my 50k warranty expired. He found oil in the same place that indicated a rear main oil seal leak. When I took it to my dealer, they said some return vent seal broke. It leaked oil all over my clutch and flywheel, so those were both replaced under warranty as well.

^ You're right. On a similar note, I had that hose kinked once and the shop told me that I could've blown my rear main because of all the pressure buildup and no release.

I doubt there is a problem with the crank shaft. On my car I inspected all of the main bearing caps, before removing my old oil seal, and they were well within tolerance, even after running at 9 psi for over a year.
With my car, the crank case pressure under boost cuased my rear main to leak. It was due to a pinched line off the valve cover and also due to the design of the pcv valve, not that it was defective.

It's either a bad seal design or more probably related to FI producing excessive crankcase pressure.

Mine went at exactly the same mileage as the original poster. Dealer replaced it for free of course, and they were surprised I knew more about the supposed problem than they did. Of course when he called me back he told me it was the rear main seal. They put new trans fluid in it at the same time for free, which saved me the fee for that.
My didnt feel like it shifted any different, same as always.
