re: Tein Questions???

3 Questions for all who have the Tein SS' on their cars:

1. Have you experienced the springs bottoming out when hitting bumps during normal driving? If so, have you been able to correct this?

2. Has you tried a different spring rate for this setup. If so, was the change better?

3. How would you overall rate the Teins vs. CT's and aftermarket shocks (i.e. Tokiko, Koni, etc...)?

O.k., so it was really pseudo 5 questions, never liked math anyway. Thanks in advance for your answers!!

1. Never bottom-out.. then again I only lowered my car 1.5" front and 1.25" rear. So, I guess it depends on how much u lower your car. IMO, you could get any kind of Spring/strut setup, and if you overly drop your car, you will bottom out your car regardless.

2. I checked with TEIN, and they want $200 total to swap my spings for the higher spring rate set. Still considering it.

3. N/A

Hope this helps.

I bottom out every once in awhile. but the roads out here are much much worse than Cali's.

Have not swapped springs, I believe JRock was talking about doing it.

don't have experiences with other setup.

1. Not really...you might be setting your stiffness to high. Adjust it to 7 or 8 clicks away from max stiffness. That should solve your problems.

2. Nope.

3. Haven't tried it.

Thanks guys for your input.

97124: If you get the new springs, make sure you do a post of how they are. I'd be really interested in hearing your opinion.

chikai: I'll PM JRock, thanks.

Peiqinglong: Nice set up! I work down in the So. Bay, so if you're still going to SJSU, let's hook up sometime so I can check your bad boy out!

late...

If u went such a minimal drop, how come u did Tiens and not a CT drop? Aren't Tiens like $1,000!

Yes. No.

No because while stiffer springs might fix the problem, it would remove the awesome ride quality of the Teins. If I went through all that, basically I would spend a total of $600 to put me right back where I was with the Nex SS coilovers.

3. How would you overall rate the Teins vs. CT's and aftermarket shocks (i.e. Tokiko, Koni, etc...)?

I had the Nex SS coilovers before these and I would rate the Nex as a more performance-oriented set. Stiffer with a trade-off in ride quality.

O.k., so it was really pseudo 5 questions, never liked math anyway. Thanks in advance for your answers!!
To clarify - I hit the bumpstops on some humps/dips while driving normal legal speeds on some roads because the Tein suspension is too soft and compresses too easily. Although now I know where so it's only if I'm on a road I've never been on that it is likely to happen again. It's annoying as fock to have to constantly watch out for that.

Plus the Teins are squeaky as hell. The Nex were 100% silent. And the whole trunk area sounds like I'm missing some sound deadening because every thump noise from back there seems amplified since the Teins went on. I can only guess this is attributed to the stiffness setting of the strut on the Teins.

Still, the springs are very soft for a car as heavy as ours.

I'm only running a 2.1" drop with them.

I had the Nex at 3.8" drop and didn't bottom, just rubbed the tires a little sometimes.

Honestly, I wish people had been more honest with me about how soft the Tein springs are. I wouldn't have wasted time and money switching to them and just dealt with the Nex SS stiffer ride.

I got the Teins because I wanted the option of being able to lower my car if I decide to goto a different wheel setup. Plus I really like the soft ride. Almost like stock..

cause by the time you buy the CT's and shocks you are looking at around 800$, and for that price you can get the tiens.

I was under the impression that w/ CT springs, no shocks are needed for a while!
