Random Technology Cat... oh no, not again!

first: thank you josh @ excelerate , if you buy ANYTHING, make sure you buy from him

second: in my neverending search for perfection and performance, i decided to go ahead with this. quality looks very nice, all welds look solid. this looks much bigger than my car-sound cat, the inlet/outlet diamater is actually SMALLER. this is less than 2" which is roughly the stock size, my currect cat is 2.25. purchased the hardware kit to find gaskets, high quality nuts/bolts, and a warranty card.

i've read both your post and spiro's

but my motor is a little different, i wouldn't recommend this for a regular 3.2 n/a, although i only noticed gains with my car-sound cat.

He has a 3.5, so torque isn't a huge issue.

I've read those threads as well...but even with my mods, I should be able to get some gains right? I know the premium models exhaust are a little bit more restrictive than the type-S. We'll see...

seems strange to gain power from a smaller inlet/outlet cat, though if it still flows better than you're current cat, then I guess it would. be sure to post your final dyno when youg et everything installed and tuned.

I've had both Random Tech and Thermal Reserach & Dev hi-flow cats on my previous cars and saw no gains with the G-Tech and felt none on the butt dyno, but that's just my

It's better than spending over a $1000 for an OEM cat right?

haha. that was just a lead in for something else, i had planned to get some custom pulleys made, but it never went through / too expensive at the moment.

btw - i installed the random cat today, i took lots of pictures, and the install wasn't 'exactly' bolt on, but it wasn't too bad. so far i feel like the power band is smooth, i didnt see any noticeable loss in torque, only gains so far.

Hey just a side note. It is a bolt on for the CL-P, TL-P but it is slightly different for the Type S models since the Type S cat has a mid bed 02 sensor and the exhaust flange is slightly larger. I'm sure CleanCL will explain more but I just wanted ppl to know that it is a bolt on for the premium/base model and requires slight modification for the Type S.

right. pictures and full explanation coming. i believe this would fit the type s stock exhaust no problem. i think it's the aftermarket catbacks that pose the issue.

So the premium model would definately see some gains over this then...

I have no dynos but I would assume so. CleanCL had a Car sound cat before this and he said that he feels gains with this cat over the previous high flow cat he had. I would assume you would see a 7-10whp gain with this cat based on what I've read and a few dynos a while back.

issue #1: the rear flange on the random tech cat was a bit too small to connect to my comptech b-pipe flange. i solved this by using a unibit and drill into the comptech flange to the 5/8th mark from the cat side since there was nothing in the way. fairly easy to do.

issue #2: the oxygen sensor wire needs to be extended. i purchased a new o2 sensor, so when i took the old one out i just used the extra wiring from the old one, and installed almost the full length using butt connectors (red ones). you can see in my pictures if you follow the wire, you will see it turns into electrical tape. i double taped it. i moved the plastic clip to the rear, and zip tied the wire to the original location.

end result. no CEL.

while the car was up i decided to coat the rest of my catback with high temp black paint good up to 1200 degrees.

my rear

If i were you i would get rid of those butt connectors from there and solder it, other wise it will get moisture in connectors and corrode the wire. It doesn't matter how much tape you put it will get in there, trust me.

i'm going to redo it with heat shrink tubing eventually. i was told NOT to solder these wires due to the fact they work off resistance and solder will mess with that somehow.

I would still try to solder it and see what happens all your going to do is get a cel. Those wires will corrode under there being exposed to all that water.

I'm sure you weren't the only one...hehee...

The original title under my name was "Project CL-P"

It'll go back once the car is fixed.

EDIT: CleanCL - I have 1200 degree red paint...I was thinking of doing the same when I put my car up after it's fixed. BTW your rear end looks bad ass. I love the exhaust.

That's not bad at all. I'm going to bolt on as much as I can before I get to work on the internals.

She's got big plans.
