If your car is lowered rhino ramps are a good choice. But with our stock SUV ride height just about any will do...

Yeah hmmmm not sure what to do. I was thinking getting on the ramps would be a cause for concern.

You can pick up a jack and stands for <$100, that's what I ended up doing. It seems safer to me, you don't have the problem of having to drive up the ramp, and you'll have more room to work under the car. Plus, for some jobs where you have to take the wheel off (like oil filter changes for us), it's obviously much better.

Ramps will be a bit cheaper, though. Either way, pick up a set of wheel chucks to go behind the rear wheels, I wouldn't even think about going under the car without them. Other than that, and maybe a good light to work with when you're under the car, I think you're set.

Not only trying to drive up on them without someone around, but if you hit the pedal too much you will drive right off of them... The scariest part is coming back down, they have a tendency to slide out and make the car come crashing down, in turn busting up your bumper.... Go the jack and jackstand route... 1 Jack, 2 stands, jack up the rear, place the 2 stands under and then go jack up the front.. I have 3 jacks and 2 stands and I feel very safe when I am under the car.

I went to Costco, and picked up a set of a jack and two jackstands for $75. The jack was a 4000lb jack, which means I can safely jack up my girlfriend's Jeep Grand Cherokee (not like you need to jack it up for MOST procedures, but still).

Jackstands are a really good investment, make all the work a lot safer. If you already have a jack, go to your normal auto parts store (it's Kragen's around here) and buy a set of 2 for $15 or so.

I had the same debate and went with the floor jack and jackstands as it seems a lot safer. I got my set at the Sears Hardware on City Line Road near the Upper Darby area. I think I paid under $100 on sale. Check out what they have -- there's all sorts of jack packages there in the store.

I also got a pair of wheel chocks too.

Torqey engine, touchy clutch, Front Wheel Drive and lots of HP.
Not a good combination for using ramps.
I tried to get the CL-S up on a set of ramps once and it just wouldn’t work. Remind me to tell you all about it at the next Philly MEET.

Get a big floor jack and a set of stands.

I got mine at SAMS CLUB for only 60 bucks and it has a 22 INCH lift.

Go for a Jack and jack-stands. It's safer and easier to manage. Imagine your car is not drivable... but you have to move it... you can do that with a jack... not with ramps! Plus what if you are working on something where the tires need to be off!?!

..did you get that 3.5 ton blue Michelin? I picked one up to at Sams a few weeks ago after losing the seals in my old one.

It's a nice solid jack for the price and it goes well with the 4 stands I have from Northern Tool.

Zapata: do a garage pit or get the stands. I would Stay away from ramps

Have anyone seen those jacks that lift all 4 wheels of the ground and enable you to move the car around?. its sort of like a forklift. I wonder how much those cost? I think $800

LOL, ya *SOME* of what they have said is true with cheezy cheap ramps.

My friend drives his vette up on rhino ramps. It's a 5 speed. Don't listen to all of the BS on how bad they are.

If you must have ramps, like i assumed that is why you asked. I would buy rhino ramps.

I use jack stands and a hydraulic jack myself too.. But if I was just doind an oil change... I'd use ramps.

It's not the same with RWD.
FWD makes it harder to get up safely.

i jack my car and put it on stands... BUT... in order to get my "ultra low profile" floor jack under the car... it needs to go on ramps

yes my cl is too low.

but umm... I just made some ramps... couple boards... cut the ends at an angle... screwed them together. voila.

btw... for an oil change... i def wouldnt use ramps...

youll notice that once you drain the oil when its jacked at an angle... then you lower it so its even... more oil comes out...

can only do that when its jacked
