RAM AIR W/Icebox
RAM AIR W/Icebox
I just got the comptech icebox for the 6-spd, I was wondering if there would be a way to make it into a ram-air and would that give more power? My idea was make a connection tube from the empty fog light hole to the icebox inlet, would this scoop up to much water and bugs, and would that little throat( bottle thing) help catch that crap??
whats your thoughts???

i cheated a bit (but dont get the same horsepower) by just drilling holes in between the crosshatch pattern on the drivers side fog light filler, just to let the air filter breathe better without getting alot of water or bugs in the filter.
I drilled the holes in the crosshatch patten for the fog light hole. But what about if I made a connection tube I know it might give me a little more power, but what about BUGS AND WATER??????
just remember the Porsche has the same inlets on the front of the bumper....but it also has inlet on the plastic wheel well trim to direct cool air to the front brakes....on the CL-S it collects the air creating resistance at fast speeds killing your aerodynamics.

Any gains seen with ram air is caused by putting cold air into the engine, versus hot engine compartment air. Of course, that's the whole purpose of the ice box.
It does look cool when coming out of the hood though....
I didn't add the connector from the Icebox air intake pipe to the bumper insert on my car. Air will still blow in under pressure toward the Icebox unit, but the 3-4" length difference allows for some fall off from bugs, dirt and some water that might come thru the bumper insert depending on your speed. I also don't think the connection would make that much difference. My theory...for what it's worth.

Ram Air is a GM marketing gymic. In order to get enough air into the intake to give "ram air" you need to be going over 140 MPH. Any speed below that doesn't have enough pressure to give you any PSI gain on the intake.

I disagree partially. Positive pressure moving towards the inlet on our cars occurs much sooner than 140mph, it's not 20mph but it's much before 140mph.
