Radar Detectors
Anyone tried that GPS based radar detector? It sounds pretty cool to me. I was thinking about ordering one, but the only thing is the legal issues. I don't really want a ticket or anything, but what does the law say about using them? Is the V1 illegal?

I know detectors are illegal in W. Virginia and District of Columbia... There may be others...
Didn't the latest C&D review in Feb. '02 say the Uniden was a pile of crap??? I don't recall for sure, but I seem to remember they didn't like it.

I don't really know much about them - but my first impression is that they're more of a marketing gimick than anything useful. I'd stick with a V1 or Passport, which are only illegal in the places that Scrib mentioned.

Radar detectors are ony illegal in Virginia, DC, & goverment/military places. They are legal in NYC. I had a cop try to take mine on a recent trip. I wasn't even moving, just sitting in it waiting for someone. I got his badge #, & told him they were legal, if he tried to take it, I'd bring charges against him.

Radar detectors are illegal in trucks and commercial vehicles probably in almost all states across the country. Private citizens in POVs are still ok. Illegal mostly all across Canada.

Illegal in Virginia, District of Columbia, Connecticut and Military Installations. All else is fair game!
Uniden - don't waste your bread, up the ante and spend a few dollars for a damn good Passport or V1. It'll save you in the long run.
