unless you have a freakish engine from the factory, and this guy was fucking up everything and had problems.

more than likely, he didnt have a vr-4 and had the badging on it.

or you might have been racing a 91-93 vr4 which only has 300hp and since theyre so old, they have plenty of problems with their turbos and lose much of their power.
I'm not taking it personaly.. it's cool. I'm just telling what happened. When we pulled over we both opened our hoods. It was def. a TT. The guy was kinda of in shock he got beat (which was only by a fender or so). When I said it was close I meant CLOSE. We talked for about 20 min. He never mentioned engine probs or a mis shift. I do agree from a stand still at a track the CLS would lose.

hrm. well freakish shit happens.

I gotta defend my car y0.

oh and for the people arguing weight.

curb weight of a CLS is 3,510 lbs

curb weight n/a 3kgt i 3,263 lbs.

curb weight of the vr4 is 3,737 lbs

you guys arent much lighter than the vr-4. and youre heavier than my car.

It's all gravy.... I have to defend my car too....
A general rule on weight is a 5hp loss for every 100 lbs you add
And it still isn't freakish damnit

Acutally, that is 10hp per 100lbs. So ignoring weight, it's like a 280hp CL vs. a 300 or 320hp VR-4. From a roll, it's quite likey that you got the jump on him. If your trans downshifted to first, and he was in second at the time, it probably would have happened just like you said. He may not be the best driver, he might have looked at his tach and saw 3500 or so in second and not realized he could have slammed it down into first.

I wanted a VR-4, I know all about it, and how to make it sick fast. But I wanted something more reliable, and auto for my daily driver. Now, if I decide to get a second car like that, it'll be a Supra TT, as w/ the VR-4 you have to tear it down and rebuild. The stock components are only good to ~400hp before they fall out the bottom of the block. The stock components are good on the Supra TT to well over 800. I don't want the loss of AWD anymore either. I think a 335 rear tire should have enough grip. Smoking them is fun too.

And SilviGTO, I'll race ya anyday in my first gen.

Hmmm.... Doesn't a CAI, some pulleys and a S/C clip off about that much time?
