Raced a 2002 LS 430

My friend pulled up to my apartment with a LS 430, and the car looked pretty sweet, he said it cost 60 something grand, but i wasn't sure on how fast it was, though he said it was quick.

I had 2 passengers and he did too, and we were side by side at about 20mph and we both floored it, we were dead even until around 3rd where i started to inch away, then he let off before 4th......but i didn't know if i did good or not.

I get home and see that they have 300hp and though i do hate to mag race, they run a 14.5 1/4mile! So, i was impressed i did that good.

By the way i just registered to this board, i used to be a regular on newcelica.org for about 2 years, but now i have the acura.........with just intake for now, but i have $800 saved up for now for headers........is $1078 shipped good for comptech headers? or is there a better deal?

Good job man! My father and I always race when we go out. He loves to push his boat (ls430) against my cls. Next time, tell your friend to put the sport mode on and turn on the ECT and try again. Those cars can be pretty quick when driven correctly.

ECT Power switch - I think ect stands for Electronic Control torque or something (i have to read the manual again), what it does is gives the car a temporary boost (I think 10-15% more) and gives the car a very quick trottle response. With that on, and you leave the car in sport mode (which lowers the car, and stiffens the suspension) that car is a beast. It also drains the fuel economy tho.

When my father drives my car normally (D5) and I use the LS, I always win.

Per my friend that owns a IS300, he said ECT only makes the tranny shift faster, thats it. More like a sport mode. Has no affect on power.

Good Kill

That 430 probably weighs over 4,000 lbs though...

Ok, just got off the phone w/ my father. ECT is Electronic Controled timing - It an adjustment to the engine timing system allowing to change the distributer a few degrees advancing temporary power. You should not leave it on all the time, for that it will reduce fuel economy and emissions. Mainly more pull. Only happens when you are WOTing. I stand correct.

Hey silverbullet - tell your friend he should check into it. My father's LS430 already has a button for SNOW and SPORT. ECT is a seperate button on the side of the gate to the shifter.

3.2cl-s - I have pulleys, AEM CAI, and sparkplugs. That's it. Even with that, if I am driving my fathers car, I can do what we do with the gateshifter D1, D2, D3, D4 and D5. Trust me, WOT that boat and do as I say with the buttons and you will be close on take off, but once the boat reaches like 60-70 or so, with rear wheel drive, it starts to really haul ass!

Oh, I don't know if the buttons are the same with the base model or the Ultra Luxurary edition. My father has the ultra luxurary edition with the fridge in the back seat so, he has all the bells and whistles.

I'm assuming his car was brand new so it probably wasnt broken in. After 60 that car will kill you but it will be close till then. Too bad my dad bought the low end lexus (es 300), platinum edition though. Imma tell him to get a ls or gs when his lease is done.

We've had a lot of Toyotas/Lexuses. ECT in the power mode holds each gear a little longer instead of letting the transmission shifter early and smoothly. And the LS430 has 290 HP. GS430 has 300

I highly doubt it will KILL us after 60.. After 115 or so (end of 3rd gear), well.. that's another story...

The LS430 is fast, but a fairly good match for our car
