it was this past saturday and i was on the way to the club with my friend to meet up after a car show earlier that day .so anyway i was on o'neal lane it is a 2 lane that murges into 1 and i always choose the right lane to get in front of traffic HA HA! well i pull up to the light and there is a girl in a white drop top eclipse, i look over and she smiles so i smile my friend motions his finger to race and she smiles so the light turns and we hit it i pulled her out of first by a car first and it stayed like that through second because i had to murge NEVER RACED A GIRL BEFORE WE GOT TO THE NEXT LIGHT AND SHE ROLLS HER WINDOW DOWN AND FLIPS ME OFF !! I JUST SMILED

Did the Eclipse drop top come with a turbo (GS-T, GS-X)? I never liked racing those turbo Eclipses when I had my Prelude. They can boogie. I am not so worried anymore with this car.

god no it was a new one the v6 or the 4 cylinder a GSX will fly I WOULDN'T RACE ONE UNLESS I HAD NITROUS IT WAS THE NEW BODY STYLE NO TURBOS ON THE NEW ONE S

I am sure it was the V6, they only put out 210 ponies at the crank. Good kill...

Thank god I did not buy another one after my 99 Eclipse.. I hate the new body style

I agree with you Smitty...they really stepped down a notch in the style department when they came out with the new body style. And the tail lights on the 03's are possible the worst looking in the industry I believe. They look like candy gumdrops stuck to a silver background. Yeesh!

The generation before this current one was sharp though. I test drove a GS-X before I bought the Prelude and it was pretty nice. I went with Honda brand loyalty though after I heard from a few people that the quality of the Eclipse was poor. Even the sales guy said they had a lot of people bringing in their brand new cars with complaints.

 

v6 3rd gen. 200hp-95-99 gst& gsx 210hp.
gst will win top end, gsx (all wheel drive) too heavy.
we should be able to beat both w/ out their turbo upgrade. look for front mount innercooler.
my gst was runnin' 12.8 with nitto555.
they ARE quick, but shit quality.
2nd and 3rd gears are sick. fun little go-kart

Were the tailights on that Eclipse all red or kind of blackish? If the former, then it was '00-'02. If the latter, '03. It must have been a V6 if it kept up with you.

The 3.0L V6 is smooth as hell (smoother than the 3.2L, in my opinion), but it has no low-end torque. But after 3000 RPM, the power just comes flowing in. I love driving that car.

The TL-S has power everywhere, but never a surge of it, unlike the GT. Oh, well. It's still faster than the Eclipse.
