R35 coming to the US?

Read a short passage in Car and Driver. They said the Skyline GT-R R35 is coming to the US in 2003.

I thought they killed off the plan, no? Anyone got more info?

Got to start saving for it now...

Last I read it was coming. That will be a sweet investment. ofcourse you will have to get in line cause for the first few years they will cost double . Kinda like the Z8 and M5 and S2000 when they first came out. Hopefully they will import enough .

The R version of the Skyline and possibly the base model/s will be coming here for sure. The big change with the Skyline will be that they are dropping the Inline-6 Cyl. turbo engine for guess which one...

They will take the 3.5 liter V6 from the I35, the one in the next Maxima, the one in the Z Car, etc. and turbocharge it to at LEAST 400 HP!

This means that the Z Car will also get that engine as an R version or whatever they will call it.

As I said before, it is Nissan's turn people. Watch out Germany. BMW and Merc are in deep trouble.

The reason they're going from an inline-6 to a V6 is because the car is going in a new direction:

Find the article here:

http://www.mag-x.com/scoop/skyline0104/index.html

gavriil: What is your source for the "at LEAST 400 HP" info? I hope it's not pure speculation.

If there is going to be a GT-R version from the Renault-controlled Nissan at all, it would have to be closer to this:

I can't remember the source but I am sure I have read it more than once somewhere. It does make sense though. Think NSX, new rumored 400HP Supra, etc.

The Skyline is an awesome car and Nissan is a company to be feared. The only nagging thing in the background is that they are now owned by Renault. That gives me the willy's. What do the French know about automotive tecnology? A culture of people who screw with their faces and fight with their feet??

GTO, tell me you are kidding. If Renault does not know anything about auto tech then Nissan should cease to exist and other companies too.

I will just remind you of the several consequtive years that Mansel won the F1 Championship in the 90s with a Renault engine which was regarded WAY ahead of its time (Renault later pulled from F1 due to economic reasons seeling its know-how to another company).

And from first hand experience, Renault makes some of the best handling hatchbacks in Europe. Americans think the ZTS Focus handles well but you should see how average it is considered compared to some Clios for example. Do some research on the Clio V6 to see what I mean.

I read it from the latest issue of C&D (Information Dirt Road). It's a twin turbo charged version of the VQ35DE, making 400+ hp. How accurate is the source? I don't know.

I really wish it comes. I have dreamed of seeing a car with a chrome name "skyline" on the back of the trunk of the car ahead of me while I am driving on freeway.......follow it keep following.........but I still can not trust these rumors enough otherwise I would be very very disappointed if it's not coming.

Yes I have to agree the price of admission to this club is high but then again you will not likely pass another one on the road.Besides there are precious few cars that will beat this car and for those few that can outgun this rocketsled Motorex is more than prepared to "upgrade" the car to insure your king of the road status. Some things are worth more than money and the ability to own one of these cars is at least in my own opinion worth it.Jens

Exactly. If you want to own this unique supercar NOW, you've got to pay.

But it'll be a right hand drive version no? I don't think I can shift with my left hand!!
