Almost $30k is a lot of $$ for that car. I'd rather have the Evo or STi if I was looking at this class

If you get an R32 VW.... you have to do a Turbo.

Otherwise the car just isn't worth getting.

The interior of that car looks great, it definatley is a 30k sports car interior.

Turbo.....A perfect wolf in sheeps clothing!

I think this car is so worth it, definetly a contender against a WRX, but i highly doubt it'll keep up with an STI stock.

But this car like the WRX & STI are great project cars. they aren't ridicuously expensive and there are plenty of mods out there, and they look great modded too.

But i have no idea which to choose because both are great cars.

The R32 doesn't yet have great mod potential as it's a relatively new engine. I'd personally rather have a Anniversary Edition GTi (1.8T), mod the hell out of it, and still save $$ over the R32.

Stock, the R32 isn't fast at all. I remember seeing ~6.4-6.6 for this car. It isn't comparable to the WRX, STi or Evo stock.

For a starting price of $30k, it's not really a bargain. If you truly want bargain performance, get a SRT-4 IMO or the 1.8T GTi and mod it...

True but once you mod that sucker up to even 3/4 of its potential they'll never see it long enough to rate it a -5 on the pimp meter.

You are kidding righ have u seen the HPA R32. It is a twin turbo R32. They have stage1 thru stage3 out now. Stage 3 has about 600hp, 0-60 in about 3.2sec. What do U mean no mods for this car.

Yeah! that car will cost about 52 thousands with that mod. Not worth it. M3, S4 and C32AMG comes to mind when in that price range.

STi with chip and turbo back exhaust is 370 hp 400 lb ft...enough said

I like this car, but I think I would put my $30 into an STi or EVO. There is so little "pimp factor" to a Golf, so why have a sporty Golf with a luxury interior? The only thing that makes this car stand out over the Anniversary or 337 is the AWD. I'm sure the car would be a great daily driver and a competant sports car. But a sub compact carfor $30k...I think I'd want something purpose built. I'd be more inclined to get an Audi A3/S3 when they come here for that kind of $$$ and take advantage of the fact that tuners are still coming out with some great stuff for the 1.8T engine. There are a few companies that will release some OBD2 types of software for "self tuning" or tweaking the chip tuning that is in the ECU. I'd rather be playing with a car meant for boosted applications anyway.

something new on the horizon for Audi/VW

IMO none of these cars are pimp and they are not meant to be! Is it really possible to have any car that is truly pimp for under 50k? I dont think so! I think all of the ^ cars have their own qualities that differentiate themselves from one another, but none of them are remotely close to being

The first conservative numbers were 6.5 0-60, but its more like 0-60 of 6.0 and 1/4 of 14.2. Oh i like the golf and all, but if i was gonna get one it would be the r32 with the all wheel drive. Did they ever make a Gti that was all wheel drive. I cant remember 1. There will be alot of mods out there for it, it looks nice both inside and out imho, and is something different if you dont want an evo or sti. Those cars arent for everyone, either is this. Only down side is i think it weighs 3300-3400 lbs. Should be closer to 3000 for a golf but thats ok.

Pimp over $50k brings a Benz to mind...Pimp under $50k brings an '88 Eldo to mind, and saves $45k for bowling ball paint jobs, dubs, Gucci interiorisises, etc...

I would have to call the S60R/V70R sleepers...not pimp in my book. Even the S4 is borderline...not pimp out of the box despite what the price says.

Not at all performance wise the cars are similar, what makes them pimp is that they have style, panache & speed

IMO, there is nothing "pimp" about any Golf (unless it is the highly modded version Torquey mentioned)... But again, it's all opinion.. I personally don't consider any VW's pimp, other than maybe the W12 Phaeton
