quick release wheel opinions

I was thinking of getting a quick release steering wheel and selling my dc5 wheel and rsx airbag. Anyone have opinions on what i should or shouldnt get for the hub/wheel. I was thinking maybe a mugen or spoon wheel. Is there a certain hub that is better than others etc. Also for a DD or semi daily driver should i avoid suede and alcantara and just go for leather etc.

On a side note, my 01 cl-p was in a pretty big almost head on collision( other car was going 50 mph, i was going 30 mph) in late 02 and neither the side airbags or steering wheel airbag deployed and acura gave me some bs excuse for that. I wasnt hurt tho. Not saying this is the reason i dont want an airbag tho specifically.

would the momo crushable hub and nrg quick release for the 2000 + s2000 work since the s2k steering wheel is a direct swap for us? I dont see anything listed for the cl. only options to me looks like universal or try to find one for the s2000 or rsx.

how is a hard column (still going to take some force to crush though) that is maybe like 4 or 5 inches max in diameter, safer then a nice big pillow like cushion

but yes the seat belt should have taken most of the force by the time you get to the column, but i still rather have a nice big pillow for that last bit of the deceleration though, then getting like a 5" ring right into your chest though

that would work too, but the issue i see with that though, is what happens if you roll the car, and the roof caves in, that 5 point is going to keep you up right in the seat as intended, so when the roofs comes in, it is going to literally crush you
where with a cage not as likely to crush since you got added protection up there now

edit:, so maybe you don't need to be fully caged, but you need at least a roll bar though, and not a stupid harness bar, just so you can add the harnesses

If the steering wheel from an s2k fits. Then the hub from one should also fit. Check v6 performance.net and see what the accord guys are using

NRG has an accord hub also, but I think it's the same style as the s2k

can anyone confirm which will fit 02-06 rsx, s2000, or accord. They have different part numbers so if they were all the same id assume same part numbers. I hope I dont have to trial and error this.

I also wanted to ask about an issue i am having with my rsx steering wheel. basically there are 2 holes on the back of the wheel that little plastic tab things from the srs module go into when you put the steering wheel on. I noticed the holes that they go into on the rsx wheel are about twice as big as the holes on the stock wheel. So when i turn sharply etc it feels like there is a clicking inside the wheel. After looking at it closer it looks like the wheel and threading is fine for the wheel, it is that srs piece behind the wheel that clicks when i turn. I tried wrapping the circle tab thing with electric tape to fill in the hole but it hasnt helped at all. Any opinions?

you mean the clock spring alignment pins....

but it could also be hitting on the steering column cover too, check for clearance to it

well it looks like i was wrong about the tabs and srs module thing. I just put the stock wheel back on and it does the same thing. It only clicks when i turn the wheel to the left. I am assuming something inside the steering column is damaged now. Pics wont help cause I cant see what the issue is. Is there something common ppl break when installing a wheel that would make this clicking effect.

yea i looked the pins dont seem to be the issue and the column cover isnt even on the car now. Seems like it is inside the steering column below the wheel to me now.

looks like ill have to take a trip to stealership now yuck

that one way to eliminate that possible cause lol

but yeah i think mine might actually make the same noise though as yours, but it is real faint though, and most of the time i never notice it though , but yeah my wheel has never been off as far as i know, or deployed it's airbags

but it might be the turn signal cancellation lever that you might be causeing it, by rubbing or something (it is right behind that clock spring btw, and could even be transmiting it through it), and you are just noticeing now, because you just worked on it, so you are more receptive to the noise

It is actually something i can feel not a noise. I am almost positive that it is inside the column. i am thinking that it might be from the force i used to get the nut off the wheel since that would be in the left direction only and that damaged a bearing or something. Even if you are deaf you can feel the clicking through the wheel in your hands. it feels like it is slightly moving when it clicks also like there is a little play in it. It has been like this before today i just now brought it up. If you drive normal like you do going to work you might not notice it. But when you turn aggresively it is very obvious. If you turn very gradually you wont notice. It wasnt like this before i changed out the wheel I know that much. I just didnt know if it was the rsx wheel or not. But now i see the stock ahs the same thing so its not the wheels.

yeah can't feel it on mine

but when you removed the wheel the first time, how did you keep the wheel from spinning undoing the nut, was it against the steering lock??? might have screwed that up somehow

but also what i am talking about for the turn signal is the blue arrow (clock spring is #2 btw), cause the actual stalk (#11, red arrow) has a little lever that pops out when you engage the turn signal, which when the blu arrow thing turns with the wheel, trips that lever, which then cancels the signal

or another thing is when you first put the wheel back, did you make sure those pins where lined up before you tightened down the nut/or slid the wheel back on, you might not have which then left a little indent in one of the plastic pieces, and you are feeling now, so lubing it might help get rid of some of the bump though, but only help it though

yea im thinking that is what happened. I asked someone to hold the wheel firm while i turned the wrench. I think the wheel slipped out of his hands tho.

The RSX and S2k wheels fit our cars, so if it fits those, it will fit ours.

In regards to the clicking, your clock spring might be turned too far in one direction, you probably need to center it

yea i think its just a matter of me figuring out what is damaged and replacing it now. I doubt Ill figure it out myself so looks like its time to give all my money to the stealership. I have a feeling they will give me shit about aftermarket parts and not want to work on it like normal tho.

Oh sorry civic you are referring to the quick release i assume after rereading it

The best steering hub available for our cars is the works bell hub. the NRG hub is junk. the rubber surrounding is 'removable' for some odd and apparent reason. the works bell quick release is also one of the smoothest i've ever used.

i haven't taken it off my car yet, but I am selling all three parts (hub, quick release, steering wheel) if you're interested.

I weighed the stock wheel/airbag vs my rsx dc5 wheel and airbag just for the heck of it cause im doing a weight loss calculation. Stock wheel is 4.5 lbs, stock airbag is 3.73 lbs. DC5 wheel is 3 lbs, airbag is 2.75. I drove for a bit with the stock wheel back on and it felt like driving a boat such a big difference that stock wheel is

I had acura dealer look at my car and they told me there are 2 bearings in the steering column. He said both of mine have play in them. He said they can replace the one and it will be 50$ for the part plus labor. To replace the other tho he says only way would be a new steering column which would come out to well over 1k with parts and labor. Looks like I will just replace the one and see how it goes.

Probably a stupid question but is it application specific or universal application?

IIRC, the Quick Release is compatible only w/ the Quick-Release friendly Hub. The Works Bell application for our cars is vehicle specific, but I don't recall which vehicle the parts came off of.

Works Bell Short Boss Hub:
http://www.gotuning.com/product_info...roducts_id=343

Works Bell Quick Release:
http://www.gotuning.com/product_info...roducts_id=337

Mugen Steering Wheel:
http://www.gotuning.com/product_info...roducts_id=364

I don't recall which vehicle application worked for our cars, but if you call GoTuning, 714-997-1114, I'm sure they could figure it out. Just tell them I sent you.
