quick question about the handbrake (cl-s 6spd)

Hey guys, I just got a 6spd CL-S and had a question about the hand brake. To make it actually engage and hold the car, I have to pull it up as high as it'll go. Is that normal? I thought that it'd engage before that, like maybe 3-4 clicks up. Thanks in advance.

Hey dude, I have the same exact issue. I think we both need to have our rear brakes adjusted/serviced.

should be 6 clicks = fully engauged (aka The car stops rolling fwd/rev.)...

the major adjustment is the rear brakes... the minor adjustment is the under the armrest.

go in for service, the adjustment should be FREE... it takes longer to jack the car up and remove the wheels than it does to adjust the e-brake on your 6-speed.

I know it's been discussed...There may be a DIY in the problems and fixes area.

I'm not sure I understand this.

It should take about 4 to 6 click to engage and it should be about half way up only. If all the way up most of the car weight is resting on the transmission and you will have problems down the road. Take it to the dealer they should fix it for free.

the e-brake may need to be tightened its pretty easy you just have to take the center console apart. but i would check the rear brakes first

There are 2 hand brake adjustments:
Simple = adjust from console inside the car.
Major = adjust the parking brake from the rear of the car with the wheels off. Jens posted a DIY thread on it some time ago.

^^ Yep, it's pretty simple. Just make sure the brakes don't drag when you're done. Inskip Acura adjusted my parking brake @15K miles and had to replace the rear brake pads @22.5K miles (down to 2mm). Tech must have forgotten to check to make sure the rear brakes weren't dragging. The official reason why the needed to change the rear brake pads was due to "rust" causing the pads to wear prematurely :rolleye: I bought the Helms manual after that...

I did a quick search for "parking brake adjustment" and found an old thread I posted in...

Here's the link to the thread where Jens posted his DIY:

do the 6-speeds have the drum type e-brake that uses the inside of the rear rotor.(my 01' auto is this way) or are they built into the caliper as 5 speed integras are???
