Questions on my '03 Auto
Hi,
I have a few questions to those are you who are knowledgeable in our car.
'03 Auto - 6600mi.
Lately my brakes have been acting a little weird. Sometimes, when I'm braking slowly (like coming near a red light - 40mph to 0mph) the brake pedal shakes a bit (not like ABS) and vibrates my leg.
During this USUALLY the steering wheel shakes a lil too. Another thing is during these "slow braking" when I get down to around 5mph, the car kinda jerks hard (which might be rotors or maybe the tranny, cuz the RPMs slam down during this, maybe going into 1st, but rough). I keep thinking this its rotors, possibly warped, but maybe the tranny is involved (my '03 IS in the warranty extension)
Also, during the start ups, like around noon time, SOMETIMES, after I go from Park to D5, and still have foot on brake, the RPMs rev UP and DOWN several times, almost like I had done it myself in Park or something. It does this rapidly too. After a lil driving, it stops. Of course I also get that 45mph "burp" a lot of people complain about.
Another thing is my idle speed, I think thats what it's called. When I'm in D5 SOMETIMES, the car accelerates without me applying gas. Like just today on the highway, slow bumper to bumper traffic, after I let go of brake to move ahead, W/O applying gas, my car accelerates, kinda rapidly on level road. At one point, I went from 0 to 45mph w/o applying GAS! This was not very quick though, more like over a timespan of like 20 seconds. Everytime I braked, the gas pedal kinda had some resistance, and kinda took a lil effort to hold it down, because as soon as you let go, it accels! I also notice the RPMs (while braking) are around 1k, but when I let off brake, car accels on own, and the RPMs go up to around 1.8k after a few seconds. I thought I had to physically apply GAS for RPMs to go up, right?
After I got off of highway I noticed it did not do the same speed after some time, and usually went as high as 15mph at D5. I noticed the brake did not have that resistance like on the highway.
I keep thinking this is the ECU adjusting or something in different driving conditions, but it's weird.
Last thing, heh, I know this is long...I feel my car MIGHT be out of alignment. For example, if I'm on a long straight-away, and hold the wheel so its aimed straight and then let go, it has a tendency to kinda steer to the LEFT slightly. Its annoying as shit!

Yea, I'm hoping on my oil change (in a week or two) I can get this shit nailed down. I hope if anything needs fixing or replacing, its under warranty, this shit is too early to occur on my new car!
What a drag, hang in there. At least you have the full warranty and if the transmission is bad you have the history of the 01-02 trannies to back you up. I wanted the 6 speed anyway, but when I read of some of the auto tran problems it was a no brainer for me. I'm sure they'll fix it up for you, could be a simple thing. I have 4500mi, hope I'm not in for any surprises like that.
Good luck and give em hell if they give you any.

Your car is accelerating on its own??
a) your car is possessed by Saddam Hussein's soon to be ghost
b) you're exaggerating
c) your car is seriously doing this, and in this case, you need to take it to the dealer ASAP-- major safety issue. The last time I heard of a car accelerating on it's own .. was the older models Caddy's w/ the northstar/ABS malfxn...

You need to let the car warm up....it is operating in a closed(open?) loop mode. Basically, the car is getting to operating temperature.
Accelerating without the pedal....check under your hood and make sure all your lines are not pinched. Your cruise control line may be caught on something.
You probably need your wheels re-balanced...also your warped rotors could be contributing to the pull.

Just to let you know guys, the acceleration is not like WOT or anything. Its very slow to get to higher speeds, but if I give it time, it gets there on its own SOMETIMES. Like if upshifts to up to 2nd while it does this and all this is going on like under 2k rpm
My cruise control cable is tucked under my CAI setup so I don't think its that.
I'm setup next Tuesday for a oil change and this stuff to get check out...looks like an loaner car for me
