The shift points depend on how you are driving. If your driving slow the shift rpm will be low and high for fast driving. Practice with it......

1st to 2nd is done automatically, after that shift before you reach the red. car is probably faster if left in auto mode. carefull when in second, car will reach redline and beyond before you know it, so smooth!

I second NYREP, it is a rather inefficient option, slower shifting and a pain in the arse. Kinda neat in the beginning or useful in some (few) driving conditions. Personally one of the big selling points for me on the car was the auto-tranny, I hardly ever use it.

This thread was very helpful to me in terms of using the SS most efficiently:

Dude read the owners manual, it will give you more useful information. Fortunately the sport shift is almost fool proof.

i have been locked at HIGH rpm before, and the only way to get out was to put the car in neuatral. though it only happened to me once.

talk about constructive feedback..

I say, practice on a game system like the Dreamcast
Try Ferrari F355 Challenge in Tutorial Intermediate mode for a bit..then you'll get the hang of it, except scale down your ego, speedrage, and your feelings of invincibility once u get in the CL

Use the sportshift for merging onto interstates. Start in second and when you hit redline go into third. Everyone is left in the dust plus you can pick your entry spot better. Helps me avoid congestion and get around slow mergers!!!

I use my SS almost exclusively to slow down. It's almost an unconscious reaction to downshift as I approach a red light or off ramp.

The second gear on ramps are really the only time I use it in upshift mode.
