Questions about...

Those of you with a Xephyr CAI...I just installed mine this weekend and I had a few questions, about the install.
1) Does your CAI touch the splash gaurd?
2) Did you leave your resonator box in?
3) Do you hear the difference in sound only after 5K RPM's?
4) Is there a slight humming sound coming from the car when the car is in idle?

I really appreciate everyones' help...I just want to make sure everything is fine with my CAI. THanks again!!

1) No, it is about 1" above it
2) I have left the bottom of the box in, because when I got mine, Chris didn't have the "J hooks" yet. When I get my "J hook" the bottom is coming out
3) That is where it is most noticeable, I can also notice a difference when the 2nd stage induction opens at around ~3200rpms +
4) No, I have no humming sounds at all

Enjoy!

Damn, my filter is touching my splash guard, how do I move it up? I took the bottom half of the resonator out, that's not going to be a problem right? Any ideas of what that humming sound might be?...or how I can fix it?

1. no, there's about 1/8 inch space. try angling your CAI a bit more.

2. absolutely not. that thing is so useless, it's just dead weight.

3. yes. i've raised the same issue in Xephyr's forums b/c i get the same thing and have yet to hear a response.

4. not really. only when i start the car from having it off for a while will i hear the "vacuum effect" (the hissing noise the filter makes sucking up the air), but that sound goes away after a couple minutes. perhaps the humming is coming from the filter resting on the splashguard. when i installed my CAI, it actually rested on the splashguard, but when i reinserted the plastic fastening clips and screwed in the 10mm bolt, the splashguard lowered just enough to give a space

Hope this helps!

Chris

So, some how I have to reposition the CAI so it doesn't touch the splash guard, and hopefully the humming sound will go away. I do hear the sucking sound, which I heard was alright, but the humming sound I'm not sure about. I'm happy to know that I'm not the only one that doesn't hear the difference in the revving until 5K RPM's, I wonder why other's hear at 3800 RPM's?

hmmmm, i think i can hear it at 3800 RPM's, but it's subtle, not very noticeable. dunno y at 5K, it just amplifies by a factor of 10. perhaps this is worth putting into the Xephyr forum. as far as the repositioning of the CAI, the ideal angle is such that the tip of the cone of the filter is the part closest to the splashguard. u may b able to angle the CAI just enough to give u a small space.

Thanks for your help scooter. Hopefully when I reposition the CAI, that humming sound will go away.

CLS16,

Sorry for the delay to respond just sa the thread now...

1.) You should be able to clear the splash guard by about 1/4"-1/2" if you reposition the tube to be on more of an angle coming out of the VSA Extension boot. also make sure everything is inserted all the way into its seats(Filter,BPV)

2.) I do not leave the resonator in on any insalls I do. Nothing but personal preference.

3) On warmer day youll notice it especially more after VTEC ~4800RPM. On cooler day it is noticeable around ~3800RPM.

4) The humming is something that is usually a result of incrrect tube positioning or loose clamps. Be sure everything is snug and positioned accordingle as mentioned in 1.)

If you need any other help shoot me an email

I would like to add, I have an AEM intake, and I can hardly hear it. This is normal with all CAI.

Does leaving it in make any difference? Sound- or power-wise?

Hmmm I bet those who don't hear it as much at ~3800rpm might be suffering from the non-working plenum butterfly valve. Just a guess. Maybe check that out and make sure it's opening the second stage. Maybe that is why some of you notice it more at that rpm than others.

Or maybe some of you are just a little deaf.
