Question To Cl Owners!
i am 16 years old, and have just got a hand me down 2k1 CL-S.
After the 3rd day of driving the tranny blew, i guess it was due since the car had 133000km. Now, i don't want to have problems with the car cause it is old, and i am 16, so naturally i wanna drive a manual car. Should i trade in my CL-S plus money and get a brand new SE-R Spec V w/ Brembo's? Its a brand new economy car, so its better on gas and i have a warranty on it. Is it worth the demotion, or should i still pay premium gas and drive an auto?

I now drive an accord....
Both are very relieable cars, but you can't compare them. You probably won't have many more problems with your CL once you get the tranny fixed, plus its has much more power and luxury. The nissan will be new with a warrenty, but its also a economy car.
You have to decide what you want to drive?
Personally I feel you are EXTREMELY lucky to even have such a choice. My first car was an 83 chevy cavalier station wagon

my friend has an se-r. i'm not sure what the gas mileage is, but all i know is he keeps complaning. you might wanna check out what the actual numbers are. the cl should get about 19/28 mpg city/highway. se-r is a pretty cool car, but honestly like my cls much better. although being 16 and all you may wanna go with the stickshift. i love my 6 speed

It sounds like you already have your mind made up, but since you're asking, keep the CL.

At your age I used to take the bus.
Repair the tranny and keep the CL. You are lucky to have that car. The SE-R V Spec is great, but its not at the CL level.

It was an automatic w/cloth interior and AC. I think it was the CL trim line. It also had some F-41 sport supension package. I don't really know what it improved, because that car handled like hell. I still don't know why the original owner of that car got all those options on a wagon

Mine was purchased for me as my first vehicle a few years before I started driving. So the base model was bought, with a discount since we knew the sales manager, for me to learn on and eventually drive. I actually liked the car for what it was and drove the heck out of it.

People can flame away, but I think you should go for the Spec-V. The CL is a great car, but the Nissan will be much more fun to drive and will be only slightly slower. You will have a manual transmission and the car has 165hp/175tq and weighs 2776 lbs, which will make it a decent handler and a pretty nimble car. The CL is luxurious but it weighs almost 700lbs. more and is an automatic.
I say go test drive it and see if you're willing to trade comfort for sportiness.

Test drive an RSX-S. It will be brand new, goes like hell, has a warranty and is frugal on gas. Insurance may be on the high side though, the RSX has a bad reputation as a racer.
Nissans rust prematurely. I know. I corrosion test car parts.
Another thing: It is probably out of your league right now, but get someone to demo a Acura navi for you. An expensive option, but now that I have one, I'm not living without it.
RSX-s is a nice car, 200 hp, <$24,000.
RSX, <$22,000. I had an RSX before my CL.

i live in canada and rsx type s are 30,000, and Spec V's are 24,000, and besides i dont really like honda all that much, i prefer cars with tourque and Spec V has 180 lb/ft. Honda and torque shouldn't are rarely mentioned together. and besides i can get a deal on a spec v, i know i am getting bashed for even comparing the cars it is just that i can't stand when cars start having problems the CL is hands down a better car. The cl is starting to give me more trouble whenever i brake to hard, it turns right does ne1 no whats up with that.

When I was 16, I road a bicycle. Wasn't until I was 17 that I got a 1956 VW bug. I wouldn't have known what to do with a CLS back then (1970) when I was 16.

I'll be 18 in August. And i make all the payments on my 01 CL-S.
the haters.
Stick with your car. It's way above a Sentra, and it's a blast to drive - even if it is an auto. Just get used to sport shift And never forget that you're one lucky bastard to drive such a nice car - i don't go one hour without thinking "Damn, you are one lucky son of a bitch" to myself.
Sucks about your tranny tho, that's a real kick in the junk.
