Question about Sport Shift

For Daily driving is it bad to switch from Auto to ss Constantly? Should I keep one way or the other when drivng? cuz I was just test out the SS and was switching back and forth between the two.

Also If I am at the Track what is faster SS or Auto? VSA on or off at the track

I guess it depends on what you mean by "constantly" but I would say there is nothing to worry about. I used the AutoStick on my old car (Intrepid) a lot and never had any problems.

I guess by constantly I mean going to SS and then auto and then ss and then auto, going back and forth a lot.

nah, it won't do anything. many people switch to SS when they get out of traffic and when they're in stop and go traffic, back to auto again.

besides, this transmission is heavy duty...built for abuse.

That's what I figured you meant but I guess what I'm saying is how often are you switching back and forth? If you are doing it every minute on an hour long drive I would say that is probably not good for it. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

I haven't used the SS that much since I'm still in the break-in period. Not that it probably matters but it's just one of those things.

shouldn't be any problems from shifting between SS and Auto...

for the track, turning the VSA off is a must, it retards timing and reduces spark when it detects wheelspin, this is bad when trying to go fast...

I always use SS now as I noticed that on the expressway, the downshifting of the automatic just plain 'ole sucks! I prefer to dump it down to 3 by hand now as it seems to not really want to do that on it's own if your in D5. (Plus it make passing more fun!, nothing wrong with that right? )

I've found myself using the SportShift to slam myself down a few gears on the highway... then shifting it back into auto to let it up-shift by itself so I can concentrate on the road.

Thanks Guys, Just one more question, should the car be stopped when switching from SS to Auto or Vice versa? Or does it matter? Sorry for the NEwbie stuff I'm still getting adjusted to my car.

Oh hell no... I regularly switch in between modes under full throttle

Its all electrical... so I dont think it really matters... if it was mechanical it would be a different story.

Switching in and out of SS shouldn't affect anything transmission-wise (except for the fact that you're probably rowing through the gears when you do it). The only thing you could potentially wear out in doing so would be the electronics inside the shifter (the sensors that tell the stick position). But I'm sure those are built to last.

Soopa,

This is off topic, but where did you put your fog lights? Did you take out the road lamps or what? Do you got pics?

MchType-S,

Do you got any pics or your Mods? You intergrades a PS2 in there, where did you mount it and where is the monitor, you must be from Canada to have a Blue Type-S

Anyone agree with me that if you are in 3rd gear (SS mode), the car can accelerate really quickly...or at least it feels like the car has lots of power (very torquey too).

Every time I need to pass, I keep it in 3rd gear (from 4th to 3rd) and I jam the pedal. It flys!
