Question about rotors / vibrations

About 5,000 miles ago, I started noticing slight vibrations in the brakes at highway speeds. (Yes, I am aware of the rotor problems). About 2,000 miles ago, I started noticing vibration in the car, without applying the brakes. I assumed it was a balance problem and had the dealer do a four-wheel balance. It didn't cure the problem.

On Friday, I installed brand new Yokohama YK420's, and had them balanced on one of those special Hunter balancers. The shake was still there. Today, I went to a different shop, and had everything balanced again (again on one of those Hunters). The shake is still there, and seems to be getting progressively worse.

I am taking my car to the dealer on Monday to have the brakes checked out. My question is this: Can warped/warping rotors cause the vibrations I am experiencing, when the brakes are not being applied? If not, what do you suggest next? An alignment, suspension check, etc.???

By the way, it is a 2001 CL-S with about 25,500 miles. Thanks!!

That's definitely a posibility. However, I figured the shops would have a hard time balancing whichever rim was bent, and point it out to me. None of the three shops said anything??

you can balance a rim with a flat spot, and still feel the vibration. have 'em check it.

Hey guys, i just got that repaired on my car 2day!!!! My steering wheel hella vibrated whenever i braked. I went to Sunnyvale Acura, and they "machined the rotors" and now I brake like the car is brand new! Hope this helps!

I had an incidnet with one of the national tire companies last year.
They sold me a wheel with a +40mm offset. After replacing ALL 4 wheels and then all 4 tires, we could not get rid of the vibration.

After trying everything, we discovered that the wrong offset put too much weight, too far off center of the suspension geometry. Changing the wheel to the proper offset eliminated the problem.

I am still fighting this problem. It is getting progressively worse (even after having all 4 rotors turned and front pads replaced). I even had a wheel replaced. I'm about to pull my hair out. I think it might be a caliper problem, as the right-front rotor is getting some weird grooves in it, following the brake work. I'm going to have Acura look at that. Any other suggestions?

I also had it aligned.

Warped rotors can definitely cause vibrations even when not applying the brakes--I remember that I used to have a pretty steady vibration in the wheel and this was magnified--to the nth degree when I applied the brakes

If you go to tirerack.com, they have a vibration diagnostic sheet that is basically a flow chart on how to get rid of different types of vibrations.

There are so many different things that effect the wheels that its often hard to pin them down. Good luck.

You can still get vibrations even though not under braking since the pads still ouch the rotor slightly at all times.

If the vibration is felt primarily in the wheel and gets worse under braking, it is rotors. If braking does not change it and it is only at certain speeds, it usually a balance problem. If you feel it in the pedals its either alignment, or something in the rear wheels/tires.

Thanks guys. I'm almost certain it is a rotor problem, as well. Back to the dealer, I guess. Thanks again.
