Question about Navigation Systems
Question about Navigation Systems
My cl didn't come with navigation. Is it possible to go back to a dealer and have this installed? If so, how much am I looking at?
Or
Could I get a hold of a wrecked cl or tl and get the navigation system from it (are they the same/are they easy to remove).
Or
Should I scrap all those plans and go aftermarket like panasonic or clarion or something.
thanks,
Oscar

Oscar, I've looked into this. You can buy the parts new or used, however it's going to cost you. Buying them new is about $3500. I have not had any success with finding a salvaged CL with navi because frankly there are just not alot of wrecked CLs out there...
One option is installing and modifying a motorized LCD unit to take the place of the 'business card holder' above our headunits. StreetEffectz has performed this many times, he reccomends the Pioneer P7000 LCD. It's a DVD unit that requires disassembling to make just the LCD fit in that slot between the HVAC and HeadUnit. You would have to mount a remote Navi controller under the seats among other things, however you can also wire a PS2 from the trunk perhaps to play DVDs to the screen. It seems that the "cleanest" option is to go back and install the factory parts. That way you can gain navi through acura's dvd/satellite system, and you can also do a video conversion that allows you to plug in external video sources via rca component jacks, ie the PS2. Only problem is that it cost cash. cold cash. If you luck out and find a yard with navi that's ready for taking, let me know, I'd like to help you install it and get the experience behind our dashboard so that I may see what other options are out there. It's a pretty basic install. There's a few things that have to be rewired via harnesses and fuse blocks (unless I'm mistaken) but the console and front fascia are basically replaced, and the HVAC is even replaced because it's built in to the new parts. Check here for the parts: http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.net/...AVIGATION+UNIT You may have to search again. Also, note that this is a parts list for a 2001 CLP non-navi.
BTW, King Acura will be very eager to install the factory parts for you...I've asked before, they wanted close to $5k. My service advisor, Chris B., was all over it. I guess he gets commision off of ticket write ups or something...
Good luck...

Thanks for the info. For that amount I could get aftermarket stuff, but I really like the clean look of factory products
i.e. no flip-out screens.
I guess I'll have to set aside a savings fund for navigation as well (New wheels come first!)
Again, thanks
