Question about getting towed

Say you park your car with the auto transmission in P or the manual in 1st and the parking brake on. Then you get towed away by the cops. Is your car fucked if they don't use a flatbed? Either they drag it on the locked front wheels or on the rears against the brake. Do they have some way of disengaging the parking brake from the underside of the car?

I can't speak for what any idiot will do.... However, they can:

1. Use all kinds of "fun" tools to get into the car and release the E-brake (you would be surprised).

2. Can also disconnect the battery for alarms that make enough noise to wake the dead.

3. Have little dolly setups that they can drop your car's wheels on...

Dollies (info, etc...)

yah..your car will be damaged.it depends.if they tow by pulling your front wheel with park or 1 gear on.your cls' tranny might be damaged..but if the car is tow by pulling the rear wheels,i think only the parking brake will be wear out.this is situation is based on front wheel drive cars.

I've been towed once in Irvine.
First, they have to break into your car and then release the e-brake. (Its easier then you think to get inside. When I inspected
my car after getting it back from the lot, i knew right away how they did it.)

Then they are done.
All they have to do is put the two huge ass clamps beneath your car to grab a hold of your front tires...lift and away she goes.
No body damage, but i'm not sure how this plays on the suspension and control arms of the front wheels.

If they DO damage your car during towing, you will have to file
it with your insurance company and the police can't really help you in any way on this. Be sure to inspect it when u get it back from the impound.

If youre parked in a really akward position though they'll prolly never get to you.

btw the fockers cost me $130+ a pop

I hate to tell you ... but if they want you out -- they will get you out.. I saw a "junked" car towed out of an end-spot. The guys used some jacks and dollies and "floated" the car out into the open.

Too bad the wanker broke into your car... The "smarter" guys can roll 'er away without ever touching the e-brake...

Yea thats true, but thats in a case of a junked car
parked for a long time, and the wankers prolly were prepared
and determined to haul it away.

in a case of overnight bandits, they want easy targets to go quick

But one thing that still lingers with me though is how the alarm shuts off? They didnt disconnect my battery because my stereo wasn't reset.

RE: Well, they grabbed my Bimmer years ago (for a 3AM movie shoot) and didn't even post the temp parking signs near me (who said they play fair == $140+). I found my car with the battery disconnected! When I asked the guy why he disconnected the battery, he said it was driving them insane (it was an older unit without a time-out or level-switch in it). They finally used a "slim-jim" to grab the door lock (to get inside, pop the hood, and disconnect the battery...)

BTW -- you should see how fast they move the "latest" and "greatest" cars up in 7-10AM and 4-7PM zones. (Talk about gone in 60-seconds...)

The greatest thing is when you return to your car the same time the towing company arrives. If they are out of their truck, you pay full price and they did not even tow your car!

A friend had a lot of stuff ($300 worth) stolen from his car when it was towed. No way to prove it. Broke his lock. All done, he was out $500.
