Question about bump stops.

Question about bump stops.

from what I've heard when you drop a car you need to trim the bump stops to give the car more suspension travel a better ride and to keep the car from bottoming out.

I thought the bump stops are the rubber bushings that the struts mount onto. If so I don't see how trimming them keeps a car from bottoming out. I mean the car bottoms out when the springs are fully compressed so why would trimming the stops help. Also I woulda guessed that the ride would be harsher cause there's less rubber to cushion the car when the suspension bottoms. Am I misunderstanging all this? Please explain.

Not sure what springs you're planning to get, but with the Comptech and the H&R's I've never heard of that....

bump stops come as an optional piece on the Zeal Function B6 coilover setup. From what i've heard is they prevent the shock from hitting the stop of the strut and prevent bottoming out, so by trimming the bump stop i believe you are doing more harm than good.

I ordered these on my zeal kit but unforunately one of the shocks was damaged after a few months and i had to pull out the coilovers and have yet to have the shock warrantied, but when i took out the coilover system, i noticed that the bump stops definetly did help my car from bottoming out because i could see in their wear that they had absorbed some of the shock.

Complete removal for most setups is a bad thing. Trimming for more agressive lowering jobs is a must to give you that little extra piston travel.
