Don't use the shifter as a sex toy?

Nope, the 6spd is a bulletproof car.

Great car, I love it and will have for a long time.

My only issue (and I think I'm being picky) is ergonomics. I find that I have to reach for certain controls, like the climate control for example. The other thing the car should have is a telescoping wheel but for all the standard features you get, it's hard to complain.

Also had an 01 CLS and traded for an o3 6spd...you wont be sorry. Cant think of anything that you need to watch out for....except the grin you'll be wearing as you run it through the gears. I did note that the gas mileage on the auto, for highways, was slightly better. Due to a more aggressive final overdrive ratio on the 6spd. I had gotten as high as 31 mpg on a long trip with the auto, but have never gotten past 30 mpg with the 6spd and more often get 28-29. Not a big deal, IMHO

I made this switch last summer, and you will never look back. There are some minor irritations like sunroof rattles that I never had on my 01, and the dumb ass positioning of the heated seats, but other than that, it is GREAT.

The one thing that I would check very carefully is the clutch. I got stuck with mine and had to spend $1800Can to get the clutch and flywheel replaced.

You may not have a lot of selection on colour... but think about maintenance. I moved from Satin Silver to APB... and I am not sure that I would do that again. The APB looks great when it is clean... but that lasts for about 10 seconds. It is just as bad as black for showing finger marks, dust etc. Personal choice though... pick colour you like. Let us know what you end up with

Bought mine new so I didn't really look over the car, but I can tell you that I wish I had went with the NAVI option. That was a 2K option when new, but it shouldn't affect the price much as a used car. Good luck on your find. You haven't had your 01 very long have you?

Since you've already have a 2nd Gen CL, you know the usual issues... The 6speed will have less...

Not much to watch out for, especially if you're buying used. For the most part all the intitial quality issues (sunroof, warped rotors, etc) should have been sorted out by the original owner.

I have owned both ('01 & '03 six speed) and you need to updgrade your stock tires especially with the six speed. I used to spin the stock Michelins in first and second gear frequently, but traction is much improved with my Toyo Proxes 4 235 - 45 - 17 tires.

I concur, the six speed version reallly is a fun car to drive!

Dave... how do you find the Toyo's in the rain? I inherited a set of them with my 6MT and I thought that they were awful in wet weather. I had ES100's on my 01 and they weer fantastic... I plan to ditch my Toyo this summer and go back to Yokos

True, I've had it since late december.. I have another vehicle as my daily driver, and want to mod the cls as much as possible.. With that said, I dont want to make it fast then have to worry about transmission problems.. I plan on keeping the car past 100k.. Of course, I plan to install a s/c as well... I didnt do my homework before buying the 01.. I paid 10,500 for it and am now asking 14k.. it has 68k on it.. Ive found a couple of 6speeds for around 18-19 range.. Mileage is around 38-50k.. Thanks soo much for all of your input... They have answered my questions very well..

Soon to be clutchin with a big grin!

The car is still in a niche market. So it's going to be hard to sell either way.

I frequently get 30+mpg with a best of 32.8mpg so it's definitely possible with the 6MT. My only complaints are a notchy 1-2 shift when cold and uhhh... well that's about it! Oh... the stock clutch can't hold 345wTQ in 3rd and 4th gears without slipping

Didn't know about that one. The one I saw was just some random chick going at it on a shift knob for about 10min

I have had mine for about 10 months and have really enjoyed it. Definitly have no regrets.

My only suggestion is that with as uncommon as this car seems to be, get a color you are happy with and your preference of spoiler or none.

I bought mine with some Dunlop sports that were not likely that much better than than the stock Michelins. Probably depends on driving habits but I have found that half assed performance tires were plenty for this car.

goredcar, the Toyos seem good to me in the rain (compared to the stock tires).

bateman, my street driving habits with my CLS 6 speed border on a blend of adult judgment, Formula 1, NASCAR and NHRA spirited driving. So yeah, with my driving style I want great handling, high performance tires.

'03 6 speed here. Everytime I get into this car I absolutely love it. You will not regret it. I have Agean Blue Pearl and as said before it looks great clean-keyword clean. I've had many compliments on the color and the car. I keep it very clean though. I have Kumho Ecstas on the car. Traction seems good but I've only driven in rain once with the car so I really can't comment on wet weather traction.

I'm quasi-trying to sell mine. It has 53k miles on it now and I'm letting it go for $19,000. It's in near-mint condition with a few bolt-on mods (Comptech intake, headers, springs, struts, koni-yellows, neuspeed strut bar and short shifter, momo shift knob, 35% tint, Infinity Basslink, Falken Ziex 235/45/17 tires.

If you're interested let me know. It's Agean Blue.

Regarding the tires, I was thinking about Kumho's as well. Only issue with them that I've read is a weak sidewall. Have you found this to be the case (any premature wear, etc.) and how have the tires felt during hard cornering?

Thanks.

I smile every time i start it up. Only things, both stated before would be the notchy shifting from 1st to 2nd in the cold, like any V6 car though. Big mistake on my part....should have gotten the NAVI!!!

Just wait till you get on the highway, one of the best highway cars i have ever driven!

edit... i do have upgraded tires, toyo. AND whats up with the girl riding stick?

What does the V6 have to do with the notchy shifting? The RSX has this problem too and im sure mutiple other cars do as well. Im sure it has nothing to do with the V6

Your findings are just coincidence

I was dead set on buying an RSX before the CL and the early years 02/03 surely had the problem. Might have been fixed by acura by 06. FYI my 93 sentra has a notchy 1>2 shift. Its not a problem with the V6, but a problem with they syncros used
