put my remote start in yesterday

I finally put my remote start in yesterday. Me and my friend did it, bypassed the clutch and its on a 3 pulse system so i push the unlock button 3 times and it starts. Definitely convenient for these 5 degree mornings. I highly recommend it, only problem is that you can't have it installed on a stickshift car by an audio place cuz its "illegal"

Daring guy you are.
I would NEVER put an auto-start on a manual unless there was some kind of neutral safety switch.

I knew a guy who drove his car into a tree because he forgot and let it in first gear when parked.
As he was running towards the car it bucked and stuttered a few times and then shut off. He thought he was safe and then the system attempted to start the car again.

BAM…. Right into a tree.

They are illegal for a reason. The only way to safely install one is to have a sensor that “knows” if the car is in neutral.

Compustar offers the remote start for manual cars with kill switchs when in gears I believe. A much safer alternative...

so you pretty much dont need your keys. how do you turn the car off?

ive heard that if you remote start and hit the brakes the car shuts off.

My car will turn off if I don't put the key in the ignition and turn it to ON after a set period of time, or if I press the brake pedal before putting the key in and turning it to ON (which I do more often than I'd like), or if the engine RPMs reach a certain level.

The extra key usually has the tip broken off so it won't function properly in the ignition. It's in the car for the transponder it holds.

when installing the remote start, do you have to velcrow or whatever one of our keys or valet key near the column? I remember an installer telling me that before

right, but Wouldnt it be 'scarey' because I'm sure theres a lot of peeps out there that know about our cars enouh to know about that. and once the alarm is defused...then they got the key and everything.....

I guess there is no need...because if someone really wants your car...they'll get it anyways..

ok here's the deal, A-it has a kill switch, B-the key does not have to be in the ignition there is a transponder box which my valet key goes in which makes it possible to start the car. C-to get the car to move you have to put the key to accessory and press on the brake. D-to get into the car you also need to unlock the door with the key E-the name of the brand is "Valet"...F-nobody can drive away with it because the steering locks and once you touch the brake the car shuts off, plus nobody knows where i hid the extra key inside the car. I think thats everything, and for the guy who said he doesn't need it in LA, it can also be used on hot days where you can put the AC on.

I guess I’m a dipshit then.
I ALWAYS pull the E-Brake and put it in first when I park.

I don’t trust the parking brake, especially on a hill. :shakehd:

The new starters learn your key's "code" and fake the signal when you want to start it. So, no storing of the valet key under the dash. Proves everything is defeatable.

I think I was a dipshit for 20yrs also. I got my 1st new car in 1980 a Prelude with 5 speed. I parked that car in 1st gear & set the hand brake. I did the same exact thing with my new 1990 ACCORD & new 1994 ACCORD each with 5 speed. If I am not mistaken I think I was taught to do this. I also think in the owners manual for the Prelude it said to park in low gear. I think the HONDA MOTOR COMPANY OF JAPAN must have been dipshits also.
I am so glad I am not a dipshit anymore I have an automatic transmission on my TL now.

ok maybe dip shit was harsh. you guys may be doing it the right way. My reason for not doing it is I have had 2 vehicles hit in parking lots, and would hate to have a small cosmetic collision be the cause of something much larger because I had the car in gear. it just seem slike it would be very jarring to motor mounts ect... Also people don't tend to stick around and give you there insurance info. Lastly, Houston is flatter than shit. no hills to worry about.

Can the clutch be engaged when the car is started? Like what's keeping someone from stepping on the clutch and going into gear without using the break?
