Purchased CL-S over TL-S

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the post and just purchased a Silver 2001 CL-S w/o NAVI. Been driving Acuras for 7 years now and love them. For info, I test drove the TL-S back to back with the CL-S. The CL-S handled much better and felt better on the road, power wise. As for the price: $28,127 (destination, mud flaps, wheel locks included). $3600.00 less than what I could of purchased the TL-S for, if I liked it. Dealers up hear in Northern California will not budge anyways. So, I figure they can keep their TL-S's on the lot. They are not selling as well as I think Acura forecast. Anyways glad to be on board with the Forum.

Exactly Type S Smokes all. I called 3 dealers nearby and they all quoted MSRP on the TL-S or no sale as there is a buying frenzy for the TL-S. I drove to two of the dealers and they had 5-7 TL-S vehicles sitting in the lot. I know the stock market and economy has some play in it too, especially since California PG&E bills are almost like a monthly car payment.

Regarding TL-S sales.... the car has only been available for 2 weeks! Give it a chance. Once the public becomes more aware it's out there (e.g. - commercials, mag ads, mag reviews) and when more '99 TL leases start to expire, sales will definitely pick up!

yes, ditto for this Acura fan, I sat in a '2002 TL-S and agree that the CL-S is more of a driver's machine. I am ordering a CL-S in a metallic blue (sorry folks this color is only avail up here !) We don't have the nav option. Lots of black & silver on the road up here.

current drive: '99 TL.

NYREP1,

Never believe a car(scum of the earth) salesman. I doubt that Acura would cut sales of the Type S. I glad to see someone got a good deal on the CL-S, $28,100 is alot better than my deal. But I did buy CL almost a year ago when it was a "hot new car." Damn I hate salesmen.

No offense, just my opinion.

MikeN,
Yes you are right, the TL-S will probably pick up as car enthusiasts catch on. It's just funny how the dealers are saying that it is such a hot seller. If they are such a hot seller why are there an average of 5 vehicles sitting on the lot at all the dealers? Gotta love those car salesman, most of them just looked at me with a blank look on their face when I asked them that.

Hey Bladerunner, as already said, Welcome to our addiction.

As far as TL sales numbers goes, here is my opinion as I am looking to purchase a 02 TL soon. The dealer I went to here in Philly had a lot more TLSes than TL base models, which surprised me somewhat. As he told me, a TL is a very popular car and I can understand why, just look at the sales of the honda accord. Since the TL is based on the accord, those accord customers looking to step up will choose TL for numerous reasons such bang for the buck, class leader, low insurance and maintenance fees. However, the price is the most important because even if you purchase a tl with 225hp at the sticker of 29,300, you are still some 3000 dollars below the invoice of a lexus es300, BMW and infinity i30. Although consumer confidence is rising, many are still very aware of their spending depending on the condition of the economy. Anyway, as far as TL or TLS meeting the Acura sales predictions, I would like to disagree. Its still very early in the game and very few people know about these new models but I am sure as word-of-mouth gets around and ads spread in media, the numbers will be better than expected.
Also, it will be nearly impossible to buy a TL or TLS at invoice this early in the release cycle. CLS is a different game though, plus CLs have not been selling as well as TLs. Just my .02 on the subject.

I must say this too.... I first heard about the CL-S when I visited the Acura web site in June 2000. The car had already been out for 3 months by then. Acura just doesn't seem to be able to reach the masses like Lexus and BMW.
