pulled on a C5 vert

i was a few cars back at a light and this young guy and his girl in a convertible vette revs his engine, not sure who at, but ,when the roar died down, i gave a couple back at him...he looks back smiles, you know the smile my engine note compared to his ..but still with a hint of props mixxed in...anyway we get beside eachother at around 45 and start pacing ... we look over at eachother then hit it...it was dead even until the shift which i was slightly late on, bumped the rev, but didnt lose much apperently .he had to shift right about the same time and when in third i crept just alittle i would describe it as "inched" ,then we both just let off...it was middle of the day and traffic didnt support anymore of that stuff...as we continued he points to me to go get this old stlye porche 911 the bettle looking ones with the whale tail...i yell...it's too old...and go on our seperate ways...this 3.5 is starting to impress the hell out of me....

I'd guess mid to low 13s for a C5 vette convert.

Was the guy in the right gear? A C5 vert manual is good for mid 13s@105+.

C'mon TypeR I think you know what a C5 can do. Even with 8 people in the car...if you can find room to shove them in.

let me ask you guys to ask your selves something now...let's say a vert C5 does 13.35 1/4 and lets say i do a 13.85..now add a passenger to the vette and it's 13.45 now add no launch where more than the difference from a 13.45 to .85 would be made up...meaning a well launched vette ill bet could pull a 1.8** 60ft time to my 2.1 on my best day (im guessing) if only acctually done a 2.203 with my old setup....see where im going...the hole shot advantage was taken away i dont think its so unbelievable...but no more from me...track times wednesday....

man has anyone noticed how most of the gtp boys just can't phathom any car is fast except for a gtp? any time someone posts a win over any car, 1st response from a gtp owner is: bs, were they tryin, and multiple other sarcastic comments i.e. whats next a lamb?, etc.
ok lets make you guys happy, gtp's fuckin rule!! i couldn't imagine anyone buying anything other than a gtp, what could you be thinkin?
no offense to any gtp owner who actually lives in reality and excepts a post of someone that owns a nice ride

it's not like i would call this a kill i was only one foot in front and the rate of pull was sloooow from 45-80 it was quick...from a stand still i can imagine it would have been different...at 4500 it pulls really hard...i remeber doug saying one time i trying to launch it sometimes he would get out of the hole with little wheel spin only to have it break loose deeper into the rpms ..i notice this tendency..the day before yesterday when i pulled up beside the H/I cl-S it was pretty easy, and i'd say he was WOT

TypeR, trust me, you're 1 of very few people I believe on this forum, but it was interesting to see that you hit it moving at 45mph. I drove my buddy's 2001 C5 many many times (and his is automatic) and moving I'd say is even more impressive than off the line for the C5...just my opinion.

I believe you from a roll its very believable the Vette is still a nasty car. I ran a vette from 65 to 85 being that my kick down was to quick for him to down shift. He didn't catch me until 90....but he was comming and fast! My dad has a C5 so I know they can run! 13.3 was the best I got out of it(STOCK)

Come on now a stock C5 manual pulls low 13s and a vert is a few tenths slower. The only way you are going to hang with one is if the driver left it in 3rd gear.

I'm pretty sure a stock (or nearly stock) C5 can do high 12s.

With great conditions and a great driver they can. My friend ran a 13.5@110 stock in his 01'. They usually run low 13s......

your friend ran a 13.5 huh...and now add you as a passenger 13.7 now add vert 13.9 you guys just make it sound more and more plausable believe me i didnt go into the deal thinking i would win i just wanted gauge where im at...and i wouldnt call this a win either i mean 1 ft ahead and 45-80 isnt much of a race

My friend ran a 13.5 with horrible spin off the line. Look at his trap speeds. A convert manual will pull similar trap speed....roughly 2-3 mph slower than the coupe. The only way you hung 1 ft ahead of him was if he wasnt in the right gear. Passengers dont play as big as a role in a car with 350+ hp and equal torque. A C5 put almost more whp down that you CL-S does crank.

Yes a Vette is a very fast car and we know no CL-S can take one but if that guy was in the wrong gear thats his problem, Type R didn't say he spanked him! And yes a PASSENGER would make a difference C'Mon you know that!

Maximized - Seems like you have a friend that drives every make and model car out. Remember TypeR has the 3.5 conversion on his car. Anyting is possible as he is probably faster than any cls on this board.

well maybe he was in the right gear, how do u know it was a manual, when you wot an auto tranny it puts you in the "right" gear, vettes are a quick car, is just when you say the word corvette peopel think its a unbeatable car, a six speed w/ all the go fast mods and a SC would prolly beat a C5 and hang w/ a z06

I have a pic of it if you dont believe me..... I dont care if he does have the 3.5 conversion on his car, it still isnt enought to take a C5 from a roll. Even a C5 auto with the standard 2.73 would walk him from a roll.

I am doubting that he beat a car that puts down the same RWHP as his Crank HP and weighs less. The C5 has better tq and gearing....assuming it actually was a 6 speed, so it doesnt make sense.

You ever see that guy on corvetteforum.com that was called out by a Turbo civic? He thought he was tough shit and was running his mouth about ricers. He lost 3 times to the Turbo civic and was made a fool.

Yeah and lost $100 in the process too ... so anything is possible. That guy's Vette puts out a lot more WHP than the boosted SI's crank HP, but guess what? no need to guess, it is a fact, he lost

Correction: the Vette lost 2 times. The 60mph roll, the SI was owned. But the first 2 runs, dead stop and 20mph roll, the Vette lost. Actually, the Vette's driver lost cuz he couldn't drive.

OMG you've gotta be kidding me... this is very hard to believe... he must have been totally in the wrong gear... at any speed the CLS will not "hang" with a C5 none theless pull on one...teh only reason you'd pull is if you got the jump and he was confused which pedal was go and which was stop...

A stock C5 will run 12s, and it doesn't take extrordinary conditions or driving. Well driven in great conditions, it can touch 12.6s. My roommate had a 00 Coupe before he got his 02 Z06 and he ran 12.8 stock and is very average at the strip. I even pedaled it to 12.9 the first time I took it down the track.
