I was checking out some of the pics from the Sports Car Club Meet and found this pic of what looks like a Cobra R, my question is, why does it say Mustang on the bumper and not Cobra???? I thought all the Cobra's had different bumpers???? I will post some pics so you all can see. Guy messed up BAD!!!!!!! Cobra R or not, WAY TOO FAST INTO THE TURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 

Cervini's sell a Cobra R kit for like $2000. I thought the bumper would say "COBRA" on it??????

Only the new 03's have cobra on the bumper.. not the older models..

 

To me it looks legit.....Notice the side exhaust exiting behind the door. If it is a fake the guy did a hell of a job to make it look like a real R.

 

Good point about the side exhaust but I thought the real one had some sort of sideskirts. I guess they might have been ripped off in the accident.

And that is the riciest stock wing ever - I don't care if it's functional, it looks like a piece of shit (even though the Cobra R as a whole isn't bad looking).

 

Um...is it me or is that just the SVT mustang? The cobra has cobra on the back bumper, to me, all I see is an SVT which I beleive rocks 390 horses.

 

The new SVT Cobra's will be 390 HP, but they are an 03' model and I don't think they are for sale yet.

i thought the side exhuast is in the side panels not hanging under on the side. and i've seen older mustangs have cobra on the back bumper, unless, it's just the bumper

 

As mentioned above the COBRA R came out when SVT was still putting MUSTANG on the rear bumper cover. After the production run of COBRA R's were built SVT then changed to putting COBRA on the bumper covers.

 

Actually, the 03 Cobra has an SVT Super Charger on it from the FACTORY!!! And they are on sale!!!! I saw one at Sears Point on July 3rd!!!!! LOOKED SWEEEET!!!!!! Guy had JUST bought it!! Already at the track tring to run 12's bone stock!!!!! NICE!!!!

 

Looks like a legit Cobra R to me. Notice the "power dome" on the hood to accomodate the larger 5.4L V8?

 

Thanks for all the responses, but I will wait to see what Pull_T says, since he is our resident Mustang Expert!!! I have only seen one Cobra R in person, and it was at night, so I can't really tell. Plus, I thought for sure ALL Cobra's had Cobra on the bumper!!!

The 03 Cobra runs a 12.9 in the 1/4 BONE STOCK!!!!!

The Cobra R runs 13.1!!!!!

 

yo aztek, dont feel bad that this guy is doubting your claim about the Cobra...it is as fast as you say out of the box...this dude, Quikcls, has been all over the board talking down fast cars....every thread hes in, hes saying how a car thats faster than the CL-S is slow and how wed beat it and all sorts of other crap, but the truth is, maybe hes just one of the CL-S owners who hasnt come to the realization that our car IS NOT ALL THAT FAST compared to alot of other cars on the road...

Actually that '03 Cobra was using the Lightning's smaller pulley on its s/c so it was not bone stock.

 

Rolie, did you get a look at the interior? If it's missing its a/c and radio, it's probably a real Cobra R. And i think they have some limited edition plaque somewhere on the dash too.

 

how about lack of rear seats? on the R, it should just be carpeted area...

Yes, this is a real 2000 Cobra R. People wondering why the rear bumper said Mustang instead of Cobra. From what I know 96-98 & 01+ they do have Cobra letter rear bumper, but from 99-00 they only have Mustang rear bumper.

anyone notice the black housing? ford began using these headlights in '02 but i could be wrong.

 

I didn't notice the tinted lights, those were added in '01. Maybe that was a special thing on the Rs.

I think I figured out why the bumper says Mustang instead of Cobra. Ford is LAZY. If they would have used the '99 Cobra rear bumper there would have been exhaust cutouts in it. So instead of making a new Cobra bumper just for the 300 Rs, they used the V6 Mustang bumper, which has no cutouts.

 

That is very possible, since the R and the Rousch stangs had side exhaust!!!

that's from last year it's a real Cobra R owned by some 17 year old kid that lost it into a turn ramming into a subaru

From the pics I saw, the wrx rear ended him, but I wasn't there, that is just from what the pics show!! I will post more of the pics later. I am work right now and I have to be very carefull!!!!

Let me clear up a few things here....

1- Yes, that is a real Cobra R. Until the new 2003 SVT Cobra arrived, the Cobra R was the baddest Mustang ever. No radio, no A/C, no back seat....nothing. Pure street legal race car.

2- Cobra Mustangs didn't always have "Cobra" embossed on the rear bumper. The Cobra R does in fact have "Mustang" on it's rear bumper.

3- The new 2003 Cobra will run high 12's BONE STOCK. There was a 2003 Cobra running around on local drag strips using a stock Lightning pulley and it was running 12.40's.

As ugly as that rear wing is, it is the correct wing for the Cobra R.

 

Holy crap, I coulda sworn the 12.9 was the Lightning pulley. I didn't hear about it doing 12.4x. Ouch that's mighty quick.

Although the whine of the SC is so annoying, IMHO. But hey, it's fast.
