Prototype Headers goes into Production!!!

Finally, Joe the owner of the Prototype racing decided to get his headers into production...

I had disscussion with Joe last year to go into partnership with him to get this project going.

He prefered not to go with any partner and would prefer to produce the headers on his own....

First batch is 50 units, each priced at $1000 (direct order no distributor). Joe is taking orders now!

I am puting down a deposit if the published gains are superior to Comptech's

More info here: http://www.prototyperacing.com/v6header.htm
Here is the Prototype Headers:

I wouldn't expect much more performance than what comptech offers.
I mean, headers are headers, only so much can be done.

Plus, if they start selling, the price will be right up there with comptech's.

Good thing I only paid $800 WITH INSTALL for my headers.

From what I remember with Joe disscussions.

He claims his header is a "True Same-Length Headers", Comptech is an "Exhaust Manifold". He promised superior performace over comptech design. (Higher gains Across the rpm range, Better Top-End).

You can contact joe at: joe@prototyperacing.com

I am waiting to see published Dyno Chart in a car magazine.

What are the difference between the true length and manifold headers?

I think True-Length will reduce "back-pressure" reflecting waves and hence increase the out flow from the headers...

EricL, can shed some light...

Well if they're a grand, I'm probably not gonna be interested, but for sure not until I see dyno specs.
They look nice though!

Hey TypeSKid - why don't you just go ahead and put your little $800 story in your sig file so you don't have to type it in every thread about headers.

I'll do that, the day that you stop post whoring acura-cl because you have nothing better to do with your life.

hi, i can afford a $30K car, but can't afford $1K for headers...

"Due to reliability problems with Level Ten's trans, I've decided to discontinue offering this Turbosystem. I simply can't sell a product that's going to cause my customers any sort of headache."

from http://www.prototyperacing.com/V6Accord.htm

Thats with turbos... This doens't make me think any better of a supercharger.

Well face it...our tranny's just suck and can't handle it. Joe was the one that produced the turbo for HKS on that Accord. which was beat to death by magazine people. The turbo system was sold to some guy in NYC, and the purple accord has since been crushed. the turbo has a new home.

anyway, since our subject is about the headers...those headers look yummy! I would be interested.....once i see dyno charts. only time will tell!

Latest update

I'm going to let Maurice, the progenitor of www.v6accord.com do some Dyno tests with my headers on his car. This will be a direct comparison with the Comptech's he has already. He has a Unichip computer, so his Racer's Group friends at Sears Point will tune the thing for it's maximum output, which has already been done with the Comptech's.

It'll be interesting to see what the outcome is. I'll let you know what the results are, as soon as I have them.

Best regards,
Joe

Equal length header tubes allow the exhaust to travel the same distance for each of the cylinders. The manifold style has unequal length so the gases travel different lengths. Theoretically, the equal length is more effective. Another variable is the inner diameter on the primary tubes. Smaller primaries give more torque, but less high RPM horsepower. That can be somewhat compensated for with a larger collector.

Hate to burst your bubble but.... 30K for a car is not that much nowadays. Besides, your comment about "hi, i can afford a $30K car, but can't afford $1K for headers..." is beyond gay.

Go price out an accord, Altima, etc. You'll be pretty damn close to 30K so I don't see why it's soo lucrative to say you own a 30K car. Hell, I just priced out a Ford F-150 that went to 30K without all the options .

We all spend our money differently and on that notion you only have a 400W Pioneer sub going through the bandpass? hi, i can afford a $30K car, but can't afford $5K for a custom system

Go check out the spings, cambers, coilovers Jrock has, he's well over 1K.

First, I'd like to say this is great news. Finally someone investing in the V6 world and creating some competition for Comptech.

Second, It doesn't seam like Joe is too bright from a pricing prespective. Even if his product is superior to Comptech's, pricing is crucial for the success of this product in the market. If Comptech's headers were initially cheaper, more of us would be buying them. Releasing these "non-brand name" headers for $1000 is not a wise move, considering you can get Comptech's for $975.

If u really believe in your product, Why not take a lower margin on the first production in order to get the product out there and start some positive word-of-mouth publicity..??

Looks like they are trying to re-coup their R&D up front. Agreed, if they were cheaper I would consider more. For the price diff. I would stick w/ the brand that Honda does not scoff at in case bad things happen.

you have to think about the production runs though. There is not much demand for these headers so the prices are expensive. If they would sell 100,000 of them they'd be dirt cheap, but i bet they don't sell much more then 1,000 of them. These things aren't cheap to produce.

i'm a little skeptical about this nighthawk, he's been claiming they are going into production forever now. His story is always changing.

Do we have any time frame for completion and dyno tested???

I can't imagine it would take that long to produce them once the design is finished.

The thing I like best about the Prototype headers is they have a plating over them so they won't turn blue and purple like the stainless steel comptech headers. They'll stay looking new for as long as they last.

Let's start a poll, Prototype Headers or RES. Who will be first. You can also vote neither

Sorry but I can't help but reply to this totally ignorant comment:
"Hate to burst your bubble but.... 30K for a car is not that much nowadays. Besides, your comment about "hi, i can afford a $30K car, but can't afford $1K for headers..." is beyond gay. "

Maybe not to you...but to someone who can only afford a used Civic or something it sure is. For me it is. I'm sitting here still paying my car off over the next 4 years...and believe me...buying something that's about 4x a monthly payment is a pretty damn big investment. So dude, that's a totally stupid comment. Glad to hear that $1k is nothing for you though. And I'm sure the homosexual community also loves the way you use gay derogatorily

Ok,

Anyone who knows me here know's I'm no rich kid. I bust my ASS every day much like you buddy so why don't you get to know me before you make ASSumptions. My problem is this use of the word $30K. Some people here think that owning a $30K car is such a fucking big deal like god forbid your car costs 29K. It's some kind of magical bar that we have reached because the 3 came after the zero my point is that nowadays with the price of cars going up and up you'll see that 30K is not that much in the big picture so I don't know what the point is to push the notion like it truly means something. If you read what I originally responded to I did not like the fact that TypeSkid was implying that people here are cheap because they wont put out 1K BASED on the fact that they spent 30K on their car. Going by that statement I take offense to that A: just because I bought a 30K car does not mean I am willing to spend 1/30th of the cost of the car on that mod WHEN I see the same mod for other cars much cheaper. B: Just because you shelled out the 1K or 800 does not make you some baller . If you look even closer you'll see my response has more to do w/ the way it was positioned and NOT money. As for the gay reference is that the best you can do?

If i remeber correctly

about a year and a half ago i emailed prototype racing and inquired about the release date for the headers

well i never got a response

also

before moving to this board i used to reside at www.superhonda.org

in the accord v6 forum this topic came up several times

I READ THAT some people acutually spoke with prototyperacing, and they said that the header was not going to be realesed because of dissapointing results...

what i dont understand is this

THIS HEADER HAS BEEN AROUND JUST AS LONG AS COMPTECHS
AND THEY ARE NOW JUST GOING TO MASS PRODUCE?!?!?!?!?!

this product reminds me sooo much about the RES. it has existed for sometime but will never make it under our hoods....

when i spoke with greddy at SEMA/IAS they told me that the final design is over at japan now and the engineers are going over it to see where they can save a few buck. They are trying to minimize the amount of bends and some other things. Once that is done, production will start. I'd expect them around the end of summer.
