what im saying is the other driver may drive not as aggressive and have his car on a more seldom WOT run in D5 shift eralier than urs causing shift early enough to be just out of vtec ...anyone wanna do a ECU reset then go first run wot in d5 and see what happens... after a few passes the car will shift later and later

mine never dropped out ov vtec going into 4th with the AT if i shifted at redline (just before the revlimiter kicked in)

Theoretically even with the crappy ratios of the AT, 1-3 should be in VTEC when shifted into. You are saying you have never driven the AT in SS or D mode and had it early shift on you? I'm not talking 6700, more like 6400. If it shifts out of first at 6400 it just misses VTEC in second. Look at ":03" on your video and see how right as the needle is falling on the upshift to 2nd (6700), the speedo needle is crossing "40". If you gate shift at 71/7200, the speedo needle is crossing near "50" when the needle falls on the upshift to 2nd. I will get a video in a few minutes and look at this and the stated rpms vs ecu rpms thing.

It is fine line with the needle reading, but seems to me even with a redline rev limiter brink shift, the high cam is not on for a moment in 4th. Too early yet in the night to give this a try...

Well yeah.... if you don't shift at redline you aren't going to remain in the powerband when the next gear engages. BUT the design is not flawed. If you shift correctly you will remain in VTEC the entire time.

Ok I tested out the rpm reading on the vtec controller several times in first and second gear...I took it to 7100 and shifted, and also let it hit the rev limiter a couple times (boo), the max rpm reading at 100% throttle did not break into 7000 ever.
If 7100=6900 then can it be assumed the tach is 200rpm off? Seems the ECU knows what it's doing...

EDIT: Couldn't get any video, my brother jacked my camera yesterday

it wouldnt surprise me at all if the stock tach is off, most oem tachs are.

I only trust a aftermarket tach that reads off the ignition.

I mean hell, look at how accurate out speedometers are

I'm with you, I need to sleep on this one . . already had some wine, so I'm not top of the class. However, I can see how the gearing would be impacted by the engine turning quicker . . . . they are both intrensically tied together. What I think can happen is that this would result in the car getting from point A to point B sooner, which in fact could result in a low ET, and a lower trap speed . . .

Okay, whatever I said : All I can say is don't get hung up over trap speed vs ET. When I ran 14.7s with just lighter weight wheels and tires, my trap speed dropped to 93MPH, well below most of the other guys that night who were running 14.8 - 14.9 and where trapping 97-98 MPH. The lighter weight tires really helped me get off the line quicker and post better 330' times, so I had let time to get the speed up . . .

Here is the link to the 7500 rpm thread, eventually you even get to see both videos
Sorry for the post whoring

The vafc video is in 1st so it's kinda quick, I tried 2 second gear ones on the highway and they were too jerky. I know the acceleration seems slow, but we are a mile high.
