Proper way to lift a car???

Well Im going to go and buy a small lift, that can jack up my car... ok would it be ok to place the jack on the Tow Hook? This way the whole front can be lifted up inside of one side... after i jacked up the car i would put 2ton jacks on both sides to make sure it will stay up....

SO whats the best way to do this and what kind od tools should i buy?

Also is the tow-hook a bad idea?

Ive jacked up my Legend on numerous occasions using the tow hook. It's pretty sturdy up under there. I havent tried it with the Type-S though.

DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a structural engineer.

But - I jack mine on the suspension bolts, or anywhere that I bang with a hammer and get a very solid sound. Suspension members are the best bet in my book.

And I assume you mean a jack instead of a lift, and 2-ton stands instead of a jack?

What I do is jack one side, put a stand, jack the other side, put a stand, and leave the jack in the raised position (one more security measure). Make SURE the car is in park and the parking brake is on FULL.

As for what equipment, I have a 3-ton floor jack and 2 3-ton jack stands. Total: $50 from pep boys.

Edit: equipment

To jack it up? Hell no. As long as you put 'em in the right place. If you're unsure, lift it slow and see if it bends.

Seriously though - I wouldn't try on the tow hooks - not enough surface area. My jack works perfect on our jack areas (just behind the front wheel - it's a 4-5" long piece of vertical metal near the body side). I jack it there, put my stands on the lower wishbone bolts, and viola!

There's a bar that runs across just behind the air damn. You'll notice that it's not covered by plastic. From the top, I believe it's where an engine mount is connected. It's pretty solid and you can use it to lift the front end up, then re-enforce it with floor jacks at the wishbones.

I recommend a 2.5-3ton jack.
