Promising New for a Bodykit!!!!

First I must give props to Closer for photoshopping that awesome pic of the Silver CL w/ Racing Harts a few days ago!

I emailed Wings West and sent them the picture and here is their response:

Justin's response:

I gave the pic to my design guy. That is a pretty sweet kit.

Not to be negative, but that really doesn't sound promising at all.

If you really want information on what it takes to make a body kit, talk to Tim on the TL board.

From the research Tim's done, it starts with about a $50,000 investment per piece to be molded. Yes, if you want a eurothane kit, the same material as the OEM TL kit, it's gonna run at least that much to make the molds. So front, back, sides, $200,000.

Fiberglass is much cheaper, but one speed bump and smash...bye bye front end.

Wonder why they are hesitant to make a kit.

I agree with all you guys, ACURA missed a huge opportunity. They can be so smart one time and so fvcking stupid the next.

Good luck to you all.

Wait a sec...if it costs $200,000 intially to produce a kit, that means Acura (or someone) has paid the money to have the SEMA kit made. I think we need some detective work to find out who made that SEMA kit....they can surely reproduce it...

anybody have any Honda contacts?

I believe the $200,000 cost for the molds is to mass produce the urethane kit, surely the custom SEMA kit was done cheaper than that, under 10K probably. It may have even been made out of fiberglass since it wasn't going on a production car at the time. Just my guess, otherwise, if Honda/Acura had already spent the money for the molds, there'd be no reason for them not to already offer the kit.

The SEMA CL didnt have a "kit"

It had an entirely new front and rear bumper... as well as redesigned side panels (not simply bolt on skirts)

You will never see the SEMA cl styling come to market.

You will be lucky if a kit is ever made that look half as clean.

Exactly right, I must have forgot the 's' and I couldn't figure out how to edit the title of the post.
