Pricing Advice? - Thinking of selling
Pricing Advice? - Thinking of selling
I haven't been watching sales as closely as I should. I'm getting a bit bored with the CL and I have other toys that get most of the modding attention now a days. Thinking of getting a different DD, but not sure what to expect with the CL. Here's the scoop:
2001 NHB CL-S
For a nearly 11 year old car, I think it's in good shape. That said, paint has some blemishes on the roof, and slight cracks on the rear bumper corners. Interior has some typical driver bolster wear, slight peeling of chrome on passenger door handle, and a dime sized tear in the leather covering the console b/t the rear seats.
Car has 150k. New tranny at 115k and new motor at 130k (a rock hit my oil pan and punched a hole in it). All maintenance has been done since I've owned the car @ 48k. I purchased from my Dad who's owned it since new. Very minor mods:
AEM CAI
Tokico Blues/Neuspeed Springs
Neuspeed Rear Sway
I was thinking of selling these individually, but I don't think I'd get the $$ to equate to the time to remove.
Any thoughts on pricing? Ebay is kinda all over the place. I know the new drivetrain doesn't really increase value, but it's essentially a new car in that department (I'm probably going to just talk myself into keeping it).
Thanks for your input!
-Todd

BTW, all these mods and "extras" usually never increase resale value of your car, this is just the way reality is.

the best way is to sell it privately, and hopefully find someone who digs all these mods and wants to pay extra for them... dealer will just look-up KBB/edmunds, and offer you trade-in average (even if car is clean). All the BS that goes on when they give you more is fake, they will charge you more for new car.
i'm in car business. none of us even look at kbb or edmunds. their prices are way off. its all based on NADA and MMR. KBB is only looked at when customers talk about it.
both of those websites are off on prices on most cars.

yep, and usually NADA/MMR is actualy LESS than what kbb/edmunds shows. So if edmunds shows $3200 trade-in in clean condition (from my experience usually cars that are clean considered to be average regardless), dealer will actually offer less than that.... dealerships send these cars straight to auction. Thats why I am keeping my car until its dead and I can through it away ... its worth more to me than a pity trade-in value it has.

KBB -

NADA -

And I agree that KBB is damn near worthless. It doesn't take into account many factors, all of which effect price.
I would hate to see the prices of a 01 clp.
I would not ever sell my car by book value ,I would shot gun a gallon of antifreeze first.
I would probabally only sell to someone that was buying the car because it was a modified not by milage.
just got to catch the right guy on the right day I guess to come ahead.
selling at leisure can bring some more $.
People rushing to sell will get burn everytime.

08034 zip code, 150K miles 2001 CLS in "Clean" Condition is trade-in is $2,128.

I can assure you that local Acura dealers will not give you more, if they do I would suspect they are taking you for a ride on a new car.

private price is $3,312, which I think is reasonable. Its a 10 year old car with 150K miles, on top of that tranny can go out any time it likes which will require another 3-4K to fix. I'd never pay more than 3K.
Thanks for all the replies, I really appreciate the input. I think I waited 1-2 years too long to make this decision.
I would only sell privately as I have no delusions as to what a dealer would offer. I'm in no hurry, so I could wait for the right buyer, but I think I'll just end up keeping it until the wheels fall off (the only problem there is with maintenance, that may take another 10 years).
I think I'd need to get at least $8k for me to feel like I would be getting something else equivalent in value, and I know that's not going to happen.

As I approach 100K I was going to sell my car. Only car I would get now would be a 03-04 Z06. But it's just not worth it. Rather spend $1500 on the 105K service & a new clutch & have a decent car for another 5-7 years.
Yes, I know this. I think I'm going to keep it. I just need to get myself "reinterested". Maybe it's time to start modding again - just not sure what I want to do for a daily that will keep me interested and not be a giant PIA at the same time.

Let alone the fact that dealer will rip you off in any way possible...So, if they offered you this trade, it should automatically raise a flag that you are on the bottom end.
And OP, get intake and headers...You will re-fall in love with your car...I did.

you are not going to get more then $4K if you sell it privatly , and that is if you get LUCKY..
I had a 2001 CL-S with B@G suspention, NSX calipers , OBX headers, TB and IM spacers, AEM CAI.. and just had the transmission rebuilt with a cooler and the whole 9 yards..
I paids $3200 for the tranny and I sold it 6 months later (about 10 months ago) for $3000 after trying to sell it for a year.. Dealers offered me $500- $1000 and cars for cash offered me $1500 and this is in NOrth NJ where it is alot more populated then PA.. THERE is no way you will get over $4000 for your car.. Like I said I could not even get back what I paid for the tranny 6 months after the tranny was put in with a 3/36 warrenty on the Tranny...
No dealer wants to touch that car because most dealers have to give you at least 30 day 1000 mile warrenty and if the tranny goes then thats $3000 the dealer is gonna have to spend.. You can get more for a 2001 Honda Accord...
I had my car online cars.com, autotrader for $5000 and then $4000 finally $3500 and took $3000 for it and it was immaculate.. with a tranny with warrenty..
