Possible thought on generic fog lights...

My friend is selling some round, universal fog lights that he bought and never used. I am considering purchasing these and putting them on the far sides of my lower, grill similar to some Integras and Accords. I'll get a pic up later of what I'm talking about. What is you guy's opinion on this?

Kinda hard to tell from that pic, but as long as they're not too big go for it.

That's the best pic I could find. I'm waiting to get back from my trip to NY before I buy any more car stuff.

I don't think it looks great in the front gap like that. If you cut the plastic bumper filler things and mounted them flush in there, I think it would look more natural.

Hey guys, I recently looked at the fogs in person. In order for me to recess them into the bumper so they will look right, I'm going to have to cut part of the middle bar out of the lower grill. Should I do it, or just keep looking for something else? I think the round fogs will add a nice touch to the front of my car if I place them in the lower grill, but I'd like to get some more feedback on this.

You could get the mesh that people use for grilles and put it down there and recess them into that with minimal hacking of the bumper. That way if you didnt like it you could scrap the idea and go back to stock easy. It would look pretty Unique as well .

Yes, I have the stock road lamps and they don't put out a thing either. I'm looking at some fogs that have a 55watt output, so they might put some light out. I'm just a little worried about having to cut the bumper. I really don't feel like putting mesh down there either. These stupid cars should have just come with real fogs from the factory.

Could you PM me the exact procedures on hooking up HID's in the road lamps? I want to see what all is required before I drop some major money on this project. Thanks.

Nice job keeping it from melting, but theres tons of glare. I wouldnt put HIDs into something thats not even a fog light. Its a road lamp, basically a glorified marker light.

I will put I here I just ask you to pm me in case I didnt see it but I really wish someone would put this in the DIY section

There are 2 parts to this first is the modification to the housing 2nd is the wiring

Supplies

1, HID Kit $60
( HIDXTRA https://acurazine.com/forums/sponsored-sales-group-buys-10/hid-special-%2460-shipped-acurazine-members-723872/ )

2, 4 wire connectors $1

3, 2 small scres $1

4, duct tape $6

5, electrical tape $2

BTW Total $70.00

tools

1, drill

2, 2" bit

3, 5/32 bit

4, screw drivers

1st part

1,
take out the housing there is one screw holding it in this screw is acessable throught the lower grille, if you look at the fog light from the lower grille you will see it, then it just pops out ( used a flat head screw driver and a rag to pop it out.

2,
this is where people get a little squeemish but I asure you, you canot see it at all and it does not affect light out put

take a 2" drill bit and drill two large holes over the top of the fog light housing directly above where the bulb sits ( this is how I got around the heat problem)

3
The bulb install, I used H7s for the bulbs, I drilled a small hole in the lip of the hid bulb and into where the lip that is on the housing, then put a small screw , throught the bulb lip into the housing

2nd part

1, start with the harder side the passengers side , Cut the three wires going into the old bulb, one is red,one is red and one is black (thats right two red I thought this was weird then I relized that they wired the headlight and road lamp as one circuit "kind of")
any ways attach the two red wires toghether and attach those 2 red wires to the positive on the HID, then attach the black wire to the negative on HID.

the passenger side is the same except there in only one red wire.

2 plug it all in and your done

I attached my ballast to the bottom of the bumper with one srew , I also suggest wrapping it in a sh## load of Duct tape just to be safe especialy if it not water proof

why do the fogs even matter for light output... Can you not see everything with the head lights as they are or what?

Cause the CL head/fog light system is BRIGHT enough for me to see shit i never seen in my previous car... or other cars I drive also. lights is the one thing I havn't touched at all.

Don't get me wrong... the HID look for the fogs is sweet, I'm just not willing to spend money on something so unnecessary in my mind.

Nor do I wanna have a potential problem with another set of ballasts. lol. and with the underdrive pulley you are already walking the line with respect to alt output vs draw from the car.... if I got my a/c on at night and are at idle for 30 sec when the engine revs up u can se the lights ever so slightly get brighter...

I do have haw eyes tho so it's really not noticeable unless you are looking for it.

Its is actually really good on dark roads for lighting up the sides of the road like a fog light should and they are not in people eyes either

I am a strong believer that these road lamps were designed to house a much stronger bulb

One of the major reasons I did mine is because I only drive at night and is used the live in the country and its a big differene if it is seeing deer on the side of the or not seeing it and I also used to drive a jeep with 6 huge lights on top this almost compares to it

I live in the middle of nowhere and most of the places I am driving to late at night are in the middle of nowhere too. My HID's put out a decent amount of light, but I would like better visibility down low on the road to avoid hitting animals and any debris that is in the road. It's more of a safety thing for me, not a cosmetic.

My high beams don't make much of a difference to me either. I just want to be able to see better before I hit a deer or something late at night.

High beams??

we do have boony roads over here in canada too.

I just don't think I could get more light, or need it for that matter.

But that's just me.

I mean u can overdrive them... but that's any light system. It all depends on how fast ur going i guess

I thought I was going to get in trouble when I first installed them beacause on the highway when im in a cars blind spot , the hids light up the side of the car, but my friend who was beside siad that they arent bother some at all, but the do project more down and to the sides which is good for animals on the side of the road

I thought ( correct me if im wrong ) HIDs take a lot of power to fire but once they are warmed up they take hardly any power at all

Also I think that the idleing goin up at lights is due to the electric fan kiking in I may be wrong thought

the motor cooling fan? maybe but I think I would have noticed that. i don't really give a shyt. A better battery would be the real solution but once again that's money down the drain, considering I got a 1 yr old acura battery.

as for the HID's taking up less power in the long run... u may be right, but then isn't their a heat issue for some people?

A heat Issue, for the housing melting?? yes, but I have solved that problem

My battery is a Kirkland battery(came with the car!) so im probably going to need to change it soon Im going with a dry cell

The only reason I say it the fan is because mine is freaking loud and I hear it come on and my revs go up

IIRC the ballasts we have are 35watts.

If you want bright headlights get 55w ballasts and real 55w Phillips bulbs, not those junk aftermarket "55w" bulbs. The Phillips bulbs cost more then the ballasts though.

I noticed that my high beams dont do much aside light up whats above the HIDs. They dont do much else. I may switch to different bulbs though as Im using the stockers. I dont use them much though.

Im doing some light work over the weekend, so Ill definately post pics of the finished product.

I'm considering giving up on fogs and just buying something for the engine.

Wooot! My foglights are out for delivery. Hopefully I can get the fogs and the headlights done this weekend. The fogs wont be wired up though because I still need to get a switch.
