Is it possible to put in 3 seats in the back?

I know this is a dork question for this site. The reality is I have a third child coming. While rarely does the family pile into my car, there are times when my car is the only vehicle (for example, when the minivan is in the shop).

My 6-speed CL rocks, and I don't want to give it up. In fact, I intend to re-engine when the time comes, and keep this one as long as I can.

So, an easy solution is to just replace the backseat with a 3-seater. Is this possible? Could I take a TL backseat and put it back there?

Which shop would be able to do this for me? Tuner or any body shop. I live in Houston by the way.

Otherwise, I'm looking at a TL in the next year or so. I have nothing against it, but the CL is unique and relatively rare. Can you even get a stick with the new model TL?

Your insight would be great.

I'm not sure about the seat question but I do know about the TL MT question. The second generation TL did not offer a MT, however many members have done a 6-Speed conversion. If you get a third generation TL you can get a MT.

no, the rear seat in the 2nd gen TL is wider than the rear for the CL. you could cut it a bit, i suppose, but that kinda ruins it. but if you need it, then you need it, and a shop can always do what you want them to for $$$$.

and yes, the 3rd and 4th gen TL have manuals (although the 4th will be coming out next year as a 2010 model and SH-AWD).

of course, you'll just replace the center console, i'd do it just to have that access but i like saying no to people who want a ride... that way i don't have to drive.

I think he'd be ok losing the center storage bin as ive been in the same boat before. But they just sat on the bin, and i dont use it much anyways.
I was thinking if the accord coupe's backseat fits, since their about the same car right?

Not sure, but I have used the rear center console as a seat in a pinch before. Besides it being a bit hard, it's worked great.

I got pissed when my brother LEANED on the center console. Just imagine what I'd do if someone sat on it.

If you still dont have an answer in a few weeks I'll sneak into my sisters Accord and take some measurements.

Thanks for the replies. Civicdrivr - thanks for the measurement offer. Don't go out of your way. If you get the chance, great! I'm not that active on this website, but I'll look for your reply.

I've used the center console before as a seat. It's good for teenagers and college kids because they don't care about comfort that much. It's not so good if you're transporting 3 kids with ages ranging from 0-6. One will need a car seat; the other two booster seats.

Anycase, I'm willing to spend some dollars. It's still cheaper than buying a new TL - which I'm not that fond of anyway.

Yeah no seat belt for the middle seat and there is no way you'll be able to get two boosters and a car seat in the back of your car. I have a 2nd gen TL and two car seats leave only a few inches between the two. I couldn't imagine anyone being able to sit there.

FYI. I turned in my CL for regular scheduled maintenance. Brought up this topic and they measured 6 different types of Hondas/Acuras (civics, accords, TSX, TLs) in the shop for me. No luck. None of them are a fit. Even if they fit dimensionally, no guarantees that the bolt locations would be appropriately placed.

Thanks for those who replied.

I bet for about $500 you could get a bodyshop to tap new mount holes in the frame of an accord coupe's backseat(s) and/or weld in a couple new crossmembers or whatever was needed to make it fit. Find the seat in a wrecked car in a junkyard.
