possible damage to CAI filters

Hey Guys,
I caught a hint of this in someones post last week. I have the AEM CAI and I imagine the same situation exists with other brands as well. The front drivers side plastic panel that sits under the CAI filter has a plastic push screw that secures this panel to the bottom of the bumper cover. Well, this push screw when installed, pushes right into the K&N filter. This will eventually (quickly)damage/bore a hole into the filter. The simple (AEM how did you miss this one?)fix, is to remove this plastic screw and use a zip tie instead.
Kevin
P.S. Thanks to whoever noticed this.

Mike was the one that discovered this. I haven't removed my filter to actually inspect this damage but knowing where the filter lies I don't see how it couldn't have been punctured. That little clip is easily long enough to do it. I just took mine out completely but using a little tie is a good idea. Thanks!!

ELITE,
Be careful. The tubing and filter are supported higher up by the thick rubber washer. When this flexes, your filter may still touch the shortend screw.

FUCK! I just noticed this as well when I had my bumber off this weekend when I attempted to clear my lights. I thought a rock hit it, so I just turned the filter around. Damn, I probably have two holes now!!! I took the filter off though when I first noticed it, and the hole doesn't go all the way through so I don't think its a big deal, it just kinda made a dent in one of the fans.

Easiest fix I can thing of is to put a rubber/bushing boot on top of the push clip by removing the fender liner from the back of the tire, pulling it up the front and reaching in and covering that clip......

Ill think about a better way for all you AEM people

The AEM people fixed me up -- the fix is available for owners of the "early" units.

I left a post about my "experience" over at AEM -- they fixed me up with a couple of nickel thickness washers *and* added and removed parts to make the job "just right."

For AEM fix info see the following post I put up:

http://www.acura-cl.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/005236.html

There is a contact name at AEM in there, and the new units should be fine.
