porsche cayenne vid
This is an interesting video by Porsche. They never show the car up close. The video is pretty long (maybe 4 minutes) but all they talk about is how the car has been tested through harsh conditions for 3 years in various parts of the world (desert, the Alpes, high elevations, snow, mountanous terrain, but also the track).
They call the Cayenne, THE NEXT PORSCHE.
It is obvious from this video that Porsche admits that they have to work the crouds about the looks of this car and the type of vehicle this is. An SUV Porsche that is. In other words, they know that they need to use pervasive marketing techniques to "prepare", "warm up" the crouds to accept this as THE NEXT PORSCHE and not like another SUV.
Bottom line, Porsche wants a piece of the SUV American market BAD but they know they have got to work hard to persuade consumers that it is OK to buy an...SUV...Porsche.
I think they will succeed in American (probably not so in Europe) and the trend will only get more serious as time goes by.

Nice video.
The real question that begs to be answered from that video is whether the Cayenne is going to be a BMW X5 "street-SUV" competitor or a Range Rover "real off-road" vehicle.
For example, will it be tuned to run fast on the road or hard off the road? Will different packages be offered depending on what the intended use will be?
