The 996 came out in 1998, the next 911 is due in as a 2005.

Yes 996 came out in 1998. Refreshened in 2001 with the Turbo headlights on all models. Turbo came out in 2000.

GT-3 coming this year, with 380 normally aspirated HP, making it the most HP out of a non-turbo model. For About 90-100k.

As Beltfred stated, 997 coming in 2005, most obvious change is more upright headlights, ala 901.

a couple of changes for 03

there was some small changes this year. a 20 hp gain to 320! and the front now has a new air damn and turbo style lights. plus new 18's. my favorite is the targa, i would love to be able to get one of those.

I like Porsche cars, but I think they are grossly overpriced.

My buddy has an 02 Carrera with a bunch of extra options....rear spoiler, side rocker panels, 18in 5 spoke wheels, etc. If you don't get the extended leather interior, its all unimpressive plastic with shiny buttons (and people bitch about the Corvette).

I also know someone who just got a C4S, sticker was over $90k (I think his Grandmother kicked it and left him some $)....because he's still in dental school. He just picked it up last week, saw it the other day just before the blizzard hit. Nice car, but wouldn't be my choice for that kind of money.

Its the Turbo or nothing for me.

Damn, I kinda feel ya. They are so based on the Boxster. I am so waiting to see final pricing on the baby Aston, the pics look stunning, inside and out. But I dunno, just something about a Porsche......

You could sit in a $50k Boxster and then go sit in a $170k GT2.......besides a bit more plushness to the interior of the GT2, they are basically the same. Also, its no secret they spend much less time building one 996 than they did the 993. Granted, some of it has to do with the latest technology, but some is cost cutting as well.

There is a reason Porsche is such a profitable company.

No doubt, Porsche makes nice cars, for what they charge they should be.

Not sure if any of you read finance magazine often, but i forgot what name is it.. BUSINESS soething magazine, had a lengthy article about the Porsche operatoin and the CEO of the company... go read it, u will get a lot of insight into this company

turns out the current CEO is doing a good job 9 yrs in a roll since 1992.. and broke a lot of porsche tradtion and turn this company into profit. I feel horrible when i read that this CEO insisted on the boxsters to be made outside of germany, and he is very successful in cuttting cost. Now it may sound good to shareholders, but certinaly not the consumers.

The 911 has always been my dream car--but no way would I pay what they ask for them new. If I ever pick one up it will be 1-2 years old and probably run about 25K or more off of sticker.

the options lists are insane, a guy at my work just bought a c4 cab for 130K!!!!

but if you know what you want and don't go for all the gimmicks in the option book (yes it's a big fuckin book) you can make out w/ a good price.

But as you said, turbo or nothing, but the depreciation sucks, i've already seen 996 TT's selling in the high 80's!

Maintenance cost are generally higher on the newer used porsches (than the earlier ones - pre 1989).

Reliability hasn't really been proven as there aren't that many 100K porsches out there for the watercooled pcars. (as a general rule of thumb, Bruce Anderson puts a 9K miles per year average on posche use).
