Please Help.

I was driving on a strech of highway where there was a sort of a hill at 80 mph. The whole car jump up in the air and came down. Now when a shift from Drive to Reverse or Reverse to Drive their is a Clunk sound. I asked a friend to shift the car for me while the hood was open and whole engine moves back and forth when shifting from R to D. Is my motor mount broken or is it the tranny mount thats broken? Please advise.

May be a stupid question but did you bottom out? Sounds like a transmission mount, same thing happend to me back when I had a jeep, one of the mounts came loose but that was from old age. Before I got it fixed, i found that shifting into neutral first for a couple seconds then into drive/reverse it lessoned the strain/noise...of couse while at a complete stop.

Just curious what stretch of highway you were able to get air off of only doing 80mph (assuming you were close to NYC at the time?)

Maybe the sub-frame bolts got loose when it landed, I know my car used to clunk at low speeds, but it could be a mount somehwere. I'd like to know where you can get air at 80mph like that.

RZ your right. When I sift into netural first it isnt so bad. SO do you think its the Tranny mount? What are the symtoms for motor mount issue versus Tranny mount? Oh yeah I was on the South bound on the Hennry Hudosn at 6:00am on Sunday morning. It was like the Dukes of Hazzard when the car jump into the air. YEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHAAAAAAAA!

Thats it. Its not so bad on the left lane. But try the middle or right lane doing 80 it feels like a rollercoaster.

Have someone shift from reverse to drive and back while you listen under the hood.

Yeah I know the area your talking about, but thats all it feels like...a rollercoaster (never been on a rollercoaster where the ride left the track :-) ) I gives you the sensation of you leaving the ground...theres a spot like that on 1&9 right after harrison, the back road after the turnpike exit. I'd imagine it takes a LOT for the CL's wheels to lift off the ground.

Not that this is in any way going to prevent me from trying this as soon as I get the chance!!

I took my jeep straight in, I was starting to hear/feel vibrations when starting in each gear. I'd def have yours looked at before it gets worse.

Are you confusing a CL with an airplane? I suspect flying without a pilots license will cost you $$$$$.
