Played with a vette
Played with a vette
On my way home last nite i see those distinctive taillights and then the bright red body get on the highway. Now i figurred it would be just another middleaged man that needed to make up from his failed career and would drive about 10 under the speed limit. However it took off, so, being playful and wantingto see this car in action i dropped it into D3 and tried to catch up. This is the first time ive seen someone really drive that car. He stayed about 100 and was weving through traffic like nobody's business, so i followed him of course untill we got to my exit and i left wiht a huge grin. Although not a race, it certainly showed me that some people buy vetts intending to use them
.
.
yeah sometimes it really gets to me with these old people buying T/A's, Camaros, Vettes, etc and dont use them. now granted, i dont expect them to be flying all over the streets in a 30mph zone, but when needed i think they should press down on the gas a little more then usual.
those things were made to run, and it actually hurts the car if u dont beat on it a little.
a 84 yr old lady by me has a 99 z28 in mint condition with 9k miles on it and she sits outside her garage all day long in front of it. ive seen her drive too, and she goes well under the speed limit.
what i would do if i had one of those.

Hah, I know what ya'll mean, cars made to run, that are not being run. Now, I have a crazy ass neighbor with an 02 Vette. This guy is probably only sober a couple hours out of the day (walks kinda like Ozzy too). kinda scary, but everytime I see him out on the road, he is doing well over 100 mph. Of course he has waaaay to much money, and problems galore. His vette sits outside day/night and has a garage full of useless shit. This man lets his 11 y/o daughter play in his wife's Durango, and I'll be damned, I just happen to be watching out the window one day, and the little hooker backed right into the vette. I have seen it, and yes they still use fiberglass
. This sorry sack of shit still has this gaping hole in the front of his car, doesn't seem to slow him down though.

A quick note about C5 Corvette's...
Something like 75-80% of Vettes are sold with AUTOMATICS. Those people buy a name, not a performance car. It costs just under $1,000.00 to get a MANUAL in a c5. The auto is standard. Most buyers need an owners manual to find the go pedal.

not sure if its true, but the majority of people that i've seen that own NEW vette's usually have them in automatic.
sad but true
Side question: Is there any website that details the demographics for any given make/model of car??
Dets, I believe that 351 is close in his approximation; the majority of later C4 Corvettes (early-mid 90s) sold were automatic. So the same may apply to the C5. (reminds me of the 96-97 Supra Turbo -- all automatics -- and it seemed that mainly doctors and lawyers were buying them)
Peace

I heard the numbers somewhere and I know it is over 70%... I heard that from a dealer (I think). Just head over to LS1.com (if you can stand it....) and ask... I am sure they will have a better idea.
On a side note...
Anyone with a Corvette Catalogue, or history of, book should be able to get a good idea for the numbers... At least it is something to thumb through for the next time you make it into a bookstore...
