Picture request of tint...

Hi, I'm looking for what 20% all around would look and 35% all around would look.

Also interested in a good combo of tinted back windows AND front windows that wouldn't draw too much attention from cops...

i'm pretty sure my tint is 35% (not 100% sure since i bought it w/ the car). I personally wish it was 25%. friend of mine w/ an 04 accord coupe had 25% and it was perfect. Great privacy and visibility

Question

Check the pictures of my car in my signature.

I have 20% on the rear window... 35% on the sides. Perfectly legal (in NY anyway) and never had a problem with the cops.

By doing 20% on the rear it make the 35% on the side seem a bit darker while remaining legal since 35% is the legal limit where I am (now NC) for the sides.

Yes it is. Cops have even looked inside my car if I'm at a stoplight. I guess they really never cared. They would have to pull over 90% of the cars in this city if the tint law was really enforced.

Plus with 35% in the front, you can easily allow light inside by opening the moonroof.

I live in Antioch. The cops must have nothing better to do but harass hard working tax payers as I've heard stories from other's that were stopped numerous times for tint on the passenger/drivers windows. Keep in mind it can be HELL HOT out in Antioch during the summer months !

i have 20% all around in California (irvine), (on my legend)

i know it's not a CL, but at least it's an acura

if i see a cop before he sees me, i try and unroll my windows.
but if he's right next to me, i wouldn't want him/her to notice me trying to hide anything. Also, i think having a light color interior helps make the tint seem lighter. or by letting more light in the car.

i've never had a problem (knock on wood), but my friend has gotton pulled over for his tint on a 99' 4runner probably at least 3 times. (5% rear 5 windows, 35% front)

Dammit qwill... I'm really liking the 5% back and 35% front. Shaded it looks great, but I'm wondering what it would look like if i went the extra step and took it to 20% front with the limo in the back...

As always though.. Clean ass car man.

How long did it take for you to get used to the 5% tint for night driving? i'm feelin' alil' apprehensive because l.a drivers suck just so damn much.

Tinting the front windows is illegal at any percentage in California.

As for getting used to the tint, I've had 5% on my previous car, so it wasn't that hard to get used to. But at night, you can't see anything out the rear view mirror except the headlights of cars. Parallel parking does suck, so I have to roll down my windows and use my side mirrors to park. But the security and heat reduction is well worth my troubles.

Do you think that 15% vs. 5% for back windows would be advisable? ((would it really make that much difference in how effectively I am able to see @ nighttime?))

Cal. Vehicle Code S 26708(d) .1
However, legislation signed into law effective January 1, 1999, exempts from the above prohibition specified clear, colorless, and transparent material that is installed, affixed, or applied to the front driver and passenger side windows for the specific purpose of reducing ultraviolet rays. If, as, or when this material becomes torn, bubbled or otherwise worn, it must be removed or replaced.

Therefore, no tint of any color may be affixed to the front windows. 70% tinting is only for clear (a la Mercedes, Porsche, BMW) tinting available standard on most cars.

Famous California tinting law case:

immediate left and right of the front seat if the following condi-
tions are met
. . . .
(2) The window glazing with the material applied meets all
requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 205
(49 C.F.R. 571.205), including the specified minimum light
transmittance of 70 percent and the abrasion resistance of AS-14
glazing, as specified in that federal standard.

Hey Clean... I need a place reference. I was going to hit up this place in K-Town. ((Edit* I forget if it was cheaper or more expensive than $120))

But I'm really liking the idea of 5% back and 20% front....

All your windows are done, does that include front windshield?

And I'm going to need a list of Santa Monica Patrolling hotspots. .

I drive w/ my windows down like 99% of the time anyway.

lol @ santa monica patrol hotspots, my advice to you is everywhere in santa monica is hot... the worst areas however are the pico neighborhood, from michigan to pico and above.. and from centinela to 15th st are the most heavily patrolled areas...

if the place treated me right i would gladly refer you to them, but i found out in the end they were SCUM BAGS.. they quoted me one price to take off and put back on.. and when i picked up my car they raised the price by over $60 and i almost got in a fight with the guy.

so myy advice is find a place with a LIFETIME warranty against bubbles and purpling etc... and dont pay more then $140

5% rear window
20% sides
50% windshield

You can see how much of a difference the windshield makes, this is with the sun directly behind me.

Thumbs up

Wow j... that looks DAMN good. Laws up in there are real chill huh.

I think I'm pretty set on 15% back and back sides, with 25-30 front windows.
For windshield, something extremely light ==> clear to just filter out all the UV shit from gettin' into my car.

thx for all the advice guys.

No I have gotten pulled over for it once, but I've had it on for almost a year now. I have a DR's note that I NEED tint to drive, and its not complete BS. I can drive w/o tint, but I get headaches and glare during the winter & from headlights make it pretty uncomfortable to drive. Even with my dark ass tint I wear prescription anti-glare sunglasses even when its cloudy out.

I think I'm gonna go full limo on my mustang later this summer, if I decide to keep it. :o

I'll snap some more daytime/nighttime pics tommorow, as the ones I have are not the best to see how dark the tint really is.

edit: and thanks for the compliments. I cant wait till I have some more $$ to throw on the springs and get some new wheels or at least get the stock ones powderchromed.

When it comes to tint on a 2-door luxury car, its a tough descion to make. Do you want the sporty look to you car? Do you want the luxury look to the car? Its tough, i dont have pictures but i went with 20% all the way around and i like it but now i want to change it. I like the 35% all the way around, its more luxury looking, but thats just me. BTW i also think that the color of the car might have a lot to do with it. Black cars have to go 5%, JKZ's car looks hot as is (good choice JKZ), and NiteQwill's car is perfect as well, but i have silver and I think it would have a more luxury look to it if i got 35% all around.

I have 35% all the way around, no windshield though, with the black interior it makes i look darker as well. I had 15% a few years back on my VW, was way too dark. 35%
