New Accord – August 2002
The biggest news of 2002 will be the full-model change of the Accord model.
The new Accord will probably have a new chassis based on the basic design
of Honda Fit. Front Suspension is to be struts and the Rear is to retain
the 5 link double wishbone. The engine for the new Accord is to be a 2.4
litre DOHC i-VTEC unit, this model is a direct successor of the current
Accord/Torneo Euro-R model. This engine is aimed to be a high rpm and
responsive model. This time the Accord will earn a proper “Type-R” model
in the line-up (the 4th Type-Rs by Honda). It will have a higher power
output than the Integra Type-R (220ps), with probably 230ps+ of power on
hand.

Very cool, especially the Accord Type R. If they can keep it between 2800-3000lbs, it'll be a barrel of monkeys.

But what's up with Honda's obsession over droopy headlights?

They should either lose the trunklid spoiler or come up with a more distinctive one. Can you say Erebuni?

The foglights look as if they came straight off the CL-S. Maybe that's where the 2003 foglamps went. :P

Nice rims, but I don't like the RSXish headlights. I don't like the Mercedes style door handles either. Still have to see the rear to judge.

I don't like Honda's trend of using Mac Struts in the front, first Civics and RSXs and now the Accord. If they next gen TL/CL isn't based off of a RWD platform then it'll probably have Mac Struts too...

Except for the headlights, it looks like a 99 TL to me.

I bet the new accord will not be as powerful as the Nissan Altima. This is because Honda has better marketing strategy. If the Accord were as fast, that would make it almost the same as the Acura TLS/CLS. Nissan really screwed the Maxima when the Altima came out

Not true. If the accord has a power boost close to 240 hp then I am assuming that the next tl/tl-s/cl/cl-s should have a power boost too.

the Body looks tight....but I cant stand the spoiler. Doesnt fit a 4 door car imo, get rid of it, or better yet add a lip spoiler.

honda tl?

I thought Acura was only a American marketing ploy... as it doesnt exist anywhere else...

So mabye one might assume that car is a new TL? just the Japanese version without the Acura (american only) band label on it...

?

I think it looks nice

I like it. It has a bit more of the indescribably-Japanese car look to it.

Oh btw, there's a guy on supraforums who has imported a couple Toyota Soarers. What's the Inspire look like? If it's hot and/or sexy, I wonder how much that would cost to import.

Inspire looks exactly like the 02 TL except for a different grille (with Honda emblem) and different rims.

What will happen is that the US Accord will get the CL-CLS engines with 225//260 HP

The 04' Acura models starting with TL will get a 3.5L for the base model and a 3.8L for the Type-S. Power gains would be in 280 HP for the base 3.5L and 333 HP for the 3.8L Type-S!
