Pics from MIR Drag Strip Meet

Didn't have too good of a showing at MIR today, but it was probably for the best ... Damn American Muscle cars kept breaking down on the track and leaking shit all over the place. I was there from about 10:45a till about 2:30p when I finally gave up. In total, I got *ONE* f'in run in ... For $30, that blows. Ran a 14.7 @ 95mph but I had shit traction and a 2.3 60'... Probably coulda at least gotten down to 14.5 if I was able to run more than once.

Anyways, here's the pics from the meet... Sorry for the crap quality on some of them, still learning how to use the new camera

Is the black CLS mrsteve's car?

no offense but glad I am not the only modded TL hitting 14.7...and you have more mods. I'm starting to think that the TLS is a tick or two slower than the CLS.

Car looks hot btw!

This one is Steve's car: Link

There were two black CL-S's, the other one is mistermehoff's CL-S (the one with the projectors).

14.7 is actually my best time believe it or not ... I've had bad luck everytime I've gone to the track whether it be bad weather (rain or whatever), or the car being broken (IMRC was disconnected one time). If I could have gotten more than one run in, I think I coulda gotten better times easily though ... I've hit 60' times of 2.1 before, which would put me closer to mid or maybe even low 14s. Oh well, maybe another time

Good luck. I suck at the 60' as I've said many a time and my best is a 14.6 @96. My best 60' is a 2.33 so my car is capable of a better time...oh well! either way not a bad time especially since the car can probably do better.

We all only got one stinkin run in ... The turbo accord driver wasn't sure how the lights worked at the strip and I'm not sure what happened but he kindof puttered down the strip real slow. Don't know what he ran, but it wasn't anything astonishing ... I'm sure if we got a second run it woulda been better.

I think Kevin ran a 14.5 in his SC'ed CL-S 6spd... Had some traction problems I think, but it was 0.1 secs better than his best NA time ... Steve ran a 14.2 @ 100mph NA though

yea, i had no clue how the staging part worked. well, after the mustang took off, the guy in the middle signaled me to go, i gun it, then tranny slips from top of the 1st real bad. then the burning smell of the clutch (stock clutch btw). after coasting for what seemed to be 20 seconds, i finally got the clutch to engage in 3rd gear... i got the timeslip, it's all blanked out with double dash. i guess i was disqualified.

i waited until almost 4pm to get 1 more run, but seriously, those cars just wouldn't stop breaking down...i had to make it back to nova by 6pm for bowling league. it sucked. maybe next time.

btw, i got to see the hybrid-imports.com's civic hatch run. it was pretty damn fast, blowing past old shelby (i think), but the passenger side door ripped off from the car in the middle of the run. i think that was the highlight of the day.

The S/C CL-S is an automatic and he ran 14.4 @ 99. He's having a problem with the blower belt... it isn't seated correctly on the pulley. Also he doesn't remember if the shop that did the install changed the spark plugs when it was put on, so he might still be running stock plugs.

Yeah, my first and only run of the day was a trial-n-error run.

R/T 0.391
60' 2.674
330' 7.512
1/8 11.190
MPH 66.32
1000' 14.479
1/4 17.314
MPH 79.82

I spun the wheels right off the line. I had to bang the shifter to go from 2nd to 3rd. I don't know if it was the track, but I didn't expect to spin so much from the line. By the time I got to 3rd I was half-way down the track. I've practiced gate shifting before. I need to get some practice runs at an industrial site or something to improve on my launching.

Hey, what rpm do you guys launch at? Do you left-foot break when you're waiting on the line? Or does that cause more wheelspin?

Sorry, guys I was not able to make it. I was out late Saturday nite with the ladies. So, I got in kinda late, so I did not make it up early on Sunday. I will come down for the next meet for sure. Sucks you all only got one run in that time period. MIR can be that way sometimes.

Did you adjust tire pressure? I go down to around 23 psi.

I launch between 2000 and 2250 RPM and ease into the throttle. I might spin or hop a little but usually i'll just stay in the throttle and it'll catch a split second later.

If you had to shift because your tires were spinning so badly that is definitely what messed you up. I had to do that once and ran in the 15s. It was actually the 1 time I went around the water box and didn't spin my tires before the staging lanes. I just wanted to try that once and it didn't work out for me. I always go through the water box and heat 'em up now.

For drag strip prep/launching, I usually go around the water box (stock OEM tires), launch around 2000-2500rpms, and just gun it at the second yellow. I usually set the tire pressure in the front to around 25, and 38-40 in the rear.

Yesterday, I didnt get the chance to up the tire pressure in the rear, I had the tire pressure up front at 28, and I launched around 2500rpms or so I think ... Probably need to ease into the throttle like steve does because I spun and got a lot of wheel hop too .. might need to run the front shocks a little tighter too. Once I caught traction though I was fine except I think I chirped 2nd gear.

Wish I coulda gotten more runs in and been better with the prep.

That'd be me I've never heard my exhaust from outside the car under WOT. Next time we meet up I want someone to drive my car so I can hear it.

By the way, your TL-S was VERY nice! Looked like it was detailed excellently. I called up to Kevin in the white CL-S and told him to slow down and let you catch up, but he was too busy trying to race a Jetta. That we driven by a cop! :cop:

Was it the red Jetta that we saw @ MIR?

You have CT axlebacks?...If so, I do, too. and I wonder how they sound @ WOT...

Thanks. I try to keep her clean.

I was wondering where you guys were going so early in the morning. And yeah, I noticed that Jetta wanted to run. I was laughing. Traffic was pissing me off though, idiots sightseeing in the hammer lane!! There was another car trying to get in the mix too, can't remember what it was though.

When I got my first blower, the belt wasn't seating correctly. Note that there should be two machined spacers between the blower pulley and the blower on the shaft. Mine only had one and so the belt kept jumping due to the pulley misalignment. Adding a second spacer fixed my blower belt issue. Check for the two machined spacers. If you are missing one, call Comptech and they can get you another one.

Thanks for the info Brian.

His belt was slipping in towards the blower, so it was hanging up on the drivers side of the pulley. Seems like maybe there was an extra spacer that he didn't need.

Yeah, mine was jumping the opposite way since I was missing a spacer. You are probably correct. He may need to remove a spacer.
