Picked up PNI silver bullet radar detector (Impressions coming soon)

I picked up the new pni silver bullet radar/laser detector locally at Costco for $85, with 30 days to return the item for full refund. The reviews have been pretty solid for this detector which retails at $150, and I will follow up with my impressions in a couple of days.

I have had this now for about 2 weeks, and let me say this radar detector is fantastic for the price. I have not gotten one false alert, the filtering is excellent, and today it saved me twice in the city with plenty of alert about 1,000 feet or so in the city. The only downside is the mounting is difficult on the windshield. Its wireless as well. I also was alerted on the highway at night about 3 alerts, and couldnt see any cop. About 2 minutes later i see lights and a cop is zooming past me to get someone.

When you say wireless, do you mean battery operated?

If so, you should know that ALL cordless detectors currently on the market have [power] limitations that affect their sensitivity. At least that is the case for one popular detector currently offered which has a corded option.

Do you have a prior radar detector, something to compare to?

no this review is not for the V1 or Escort Addicts, this review is for a radar detector with hardly any falses with strong range that is inexpensive. It also has the corded option, which I will now use since you say the wireless takes away some of the sensitivity.

Decreased sensitivity....that's what I heard. But check it out and let us know the truth. I am more than a V1 addict...but I still have an open mind.

I'd rather have a false then no warning at all. If it falses alot it's doing it's job, & proves how sensitive it is. Just be carefull. Don't get a false sense of security.

Falses are worthless, and take away the whole point of the detector, you will always be driving slow if your always getting falses.

I agree, you can’t count every little BEEP or BOOP as a false alarm.
Once you drive with your detector for a while you start to know what it’s trying to tell you.

I had my V1 in my buddy’s vehicle on the 9-Hour drive down to North Carolina and he did all the driving.
Not being a detector user, he was slamming on the brakes every time it made a sound.
But after a few hours (and my counseling) he was well aware of what it was doing.
It also didn’t take long for him to see the value of the arrows with all the decoy “radar blasters” that PA loves to use.
You can’t get too comfortable, but you need to do your own bit of “filtering” at times.
I’d rather have that option instead of getting BURNT because the unit didn’t think I needed to know.

I wouldn't say they are worthless. Annoying yes, but not worthless.

Like Shawn said, after getting used to them you will very quickly pick up on what the detector, the V1 in my case, is trying to tell you.

I also agree that a battery powered detector is not going to give the sensitivity or the reliability of a corded detector.

I don't speed through the city, business districts, or residential areas so I normally turn the volume way down or even off completely when I'm not on the highway, thus falses don't bother me as much anymore.

On the highway the only falses you are going to get are from the radar units they put in electronic road signs. Basically a radar gun that does nothing more than slows down people who have radar detectors. It's funny, DC uses these all over the place yet radar detectors are illegal in DC The only other false you would see on the highway is from cheap radar detectors that "leak" out a K band signal. Those are the most annoying because someone next to you could have an $80 detector and just ride right behind you for miles. Drives me nuts.

I've had the V1 pick up on K band radar speed traps over a mile away. For me it is worth the price of admission.

Good luck with your detector.

If it does what you need, & meets you price range then great. You have a website for it? I'd like to read up on it.
