PIAA 19172

I just installed the new PIAA 19172 wedge bulbs in my road lamps. I thought they would be close to the HID color, but they're a little purplish. Does anyone know if the 19169s are closer to the headlight color?

A little bit closer but I went with Polarg M6's and they are a lot closer and brighter.

I got the PIAA's 19224, and there are really close to the HID's. If you get up close you can kind of see the blueish tint, but from a distance they seem white.

Hey! We're not too far from each other, I live in Morristonwn NJ. I own a 2001 CLS all Stock but this Wed I'm getting my AEM CAI installed. I really am interested in seeing the PIAA'S that you have and how they look. Is there any way we can arrange that. Also I have a great Cobra ES-9200 pig detector that's only a week old that I'm looking to get rid of. I just dont need it, (PBA CARD) I'll even make a sick trade...I'll trade you the lights for the radar if you want. Well whatever but I'm still interested in seeing thoes lights.

Best of luck with the car

A friend of mine actually lives up in Clinton Township, which I don't think is too far from Morristown. I'm sure we can meet up one of these weekends, so you can check out the lights. Actually are you going to the PArk Ave. meet on June 9th, I'll probably be there. Either way, let me know when.

Go with the PIAA 19224 if you want them to match.

Because they are only 5W the PIAA 19169 looks kinda yellowish when compared to the headlights because they are a lot less bright.

I got the PIAA 19224 a few weeks ago and they are great. They match the headlights better because they are a lot brighter, 18W.

You are probably not going to find a perfect match because true HID light don't have a filament inside the bulb and produce the light differently than standard bulbs. But the PIAA 19224 are a +95% match to the stock lights.

Either Solaris 9005's (expensive $75 a pair) or Hiper 9005. They are white/white but the bulbs are blue in the socket. Looks kinda cool. I think the stocks are brighter but I believe it to be because of the color temp not the wattage.

You would have to re-wire everything and provide new housings. The HID would melt the flimsy plastic cover over the road lamps. We are pushing the envelope using 18w instead of 5 watt factory bulbs now. (Polarg M6 are 18W).

So, are the 19169s closer to the stock HIDs? I don't want to try 18w bulbs.

The PIAA 19169's are close to the HID but since they are incandescent they will never match. In my opinion they are just to dim. That's why I changed to Polarg M6 18W bulbs. They have been in since Jan and no problems. I installed the CAI this weekend so I had a good closeup look at the road lamps. No distortion, no melting, no melted wires, etc.

What about a comparison between PIAAs 19172 and 19224? Any comments? Which is closer to the headlights?

I personally think that the 19224's are a closer match. Like I said earlier, if you're up close you can tell they have a little bluish tint to them, but from a distance you can't really tell the difference. Trust me, they look really nice, and they're a lot brighter too.
