Performance Tire Search

Hi,

I'm currently looking for the best tire for my needs. I plan to mount these tires on my stock '03 17s in probably 225/45/17

Here is what I need:

Very Impressive Dry Traction

Better than Stock Wet Traction

Good Treadlife (at least 20k) w/ consistant traction levels throughout life

No fitment/rubbing issues

Equal to Stock or Better Ride Quality & Noise

Cost under 160/tire

Suitable for Tein SS lowered vehicle w/ Sways (mucho cornering)

I know I could search at TireRack and stuff but I truely cannot trust their statistics they have gathered. I'd like to know what you CL owners believe is the best.

I plan to mount my stock tires when the weather gets crappy in the East

Hmm...So far I've been looking at

Bridgestone S-O3s and Toyo T1-S Proxies.

What do you guys think of those? Any others I should check into?

Same boat here, but 235-45-17. The Toyo T1's I have on now, are ready to be replaced after 25K miles. They have been great tires just looking for more options.

235/45/17 is the closest to stock diameter Revolution per mile.

Are yours on stock rims? Any complaints on the Toyos?
25k is pretty nice wear for performance tires. I was just reading up on Bridgestone S-O3s are their under 15k or less wear!

I had no problems with the Toyo's. I have them on stock 02 rims. I was suprised to get 25K out of them. Rotated every 5K miles. I found them very quiet. Maybe the 18" sizes are louder? I'm just looking for other options. The Michelin Pilot Sport All Seasons are the best tires, but they are so expensive.

Pirelli PZero Nero in 235/45/17...highest load rating of any 17in tire b/c it's an extra load tire which translates to better cornering and stability than other max perf. tires

i have had the Pilot Sport A/S's for over a year and just swapped into the Pirelli's...the A/S's r good tires in every category, including snow, but it lacks initial grip at the line which is where max perf. tires kinda capitalize on (Pilot Sport A/S's r ultra high-perf)

i'd say the Pilot Sport A/S's r the best all-season tire out there, but as far as comparing them to a summer tire, it kinda falls short just a bit IMO

As of now, I leaning towards the Toyos. The Bridgestone's seem nice but way too many complaints of crap treadlife. Where you guys get your toyos from? www.onlinetires.com has for 158/tire

Would 235/45/17 give me problems in the future with rubbing or alignment on stock '03 rims? Or should I stick w/ 225? Help!

u'll b alright with the stock rims and 235-series tire...but 235 is the utmost limit on the stock rim...u shouldn't have a prob with alignment if the guy is competant

You will be fine with the 235's on stock rims for rubbing. I have none & have Comptech's. Alignment I have heard is a bitch on the 01-02 rims. The 03's are different, so they may be easier. Not because of any problem with the rim, or tire, just the way the tire sits in around the rim lip(normal for the toyos) so it's hard to get the alignment tools on them. I think it happens too with the 225's.

Based on my own opinion and others that I've seen posted, the HTR+ competes for the best all season perfomance tire at ANY price. These are well made tires, not cheap-ass knock-offs...but, back to the topic of this thread, they're not summer tires.

What do you guys think about where to purchase Toyos?

Should I save and get them online and then goto a shop to have them mounted/balanced on my rims?

What are the best places to buy from?

I found the best prices of the Toyos locally, at a Tire kindom, or discount tire. I found them for $167 mounted/balanced 235-45-17
