? for people with pulleys

is there any issues with having pulleys?

I've heard that if you have pulleys you cant have a bunch of stuff on otherwise the lights will dim or something. Such as having the air on full and turning up the stereo.

Thinking about getting the AEM Tru Power Pulleys.

Thanks in advance for the help guys

I don't think the AEM pulleys will have any negative effect on your electrical system...even if you turn on everything in the car. I've done that and no problems to date ever since the install last year.

And, I just installed my system consisting of:

-Alpine CDA-7893 deck
-Alpine CHA-1214 12 disc changer
-Alpine Type R mids and tweeters
-Alpine Type R 6x9's
-Rockford Fosgate HX2 punch 10" subs (in a sealed box)
-Rockford Fosgate 1000bd monoblock amp
-Rockford Fosgate 300x 4-channel amp
-EFX Capacitor

Been running this setup for the past week and a half and no problems. My interior lights dimmed slightly once(I had just started my car and cranked it up right away).

Shit yea u did it right . As long as u have that CAP in there u should be fine. But damm still even with a 1000W amp I would imagine that u would also need an Optima Yellow.

But as for a syock system, naaaa don't worry. The most that u should be worried about is the fact that the UR pullies have no harmonic dampener, like the stock ones do.

thanks guys.
helps a lot....especially since I plan on pushing a lot of wattage with my new system.

I read somewhere that you might have to have something re-calibrated or torqued after the install of the new pulleys....

is this true?

I just had PAA install my pullies the other day. The only thing extra they did was put in new belts.

UR pullies get more than 2-3 hp, at least 10 hp, and it cuts down on your loss through the engine due to auto or manual.

I believe most of that gain is from the crank pulley. The AEM, which only has the alternator and AC pulleys, and not the crank pulley, will make only 2-4 HP across the board.

Really? My buddy had them on his '88 Mustang, and he had problems with the engine charging when driving around town (the voltmeter wouldn't show a charge until 2000 RPM). Of course, it was a Rustang in all....

After reading this thread, I got interested, so I checked out AEM pulleys. From their website, they have a dyno of a CL with pulleys on. You're only going to pick up 3.3 HP at the most with the AEM's.

http://www.aempower.com/application/...pplication.htm

Just click on the concentric circles for the dyno. Even at $150, it's pretty expensive HP ($50/HP).

Unorthodox Racing pulleys give 13.5 HP:
http://www.unorthodoxracing.com/dyno...%20type_s.html

Which at $300, is better bang for the buck ($22/HP).

Of course, AEM doesn't remove the harmonic damper, and UR does. AEM claims that it can cause long term engine damage, UR doesn't.... You make you're own conclusions... (of course, if AEM didn't believe it, then they'd manufacture pulleys to pick up the extra 10 HP, right?)

Question: the harmonic dampener is on all pulleys or just one?

If it is on only one then can we go half and half (AEM/UR).

AEM doesn't make a crank pulley. The harmonic dampener is on the crank pulley on our car.

So is it possible to find the weight of the harmonic Damper on the crank pulley and intall it on the UR crank pulley?

It doesn't quite work that way... and I wish it were that simple...

Someone would need to "carve out" the rubber inside the factory pulley and it is not a trivial project (like gluing some "set"/"fixed" amount of rubber to a "new" pulley). (There are other issues too...)

so what long term effects does it have on our engine? does that mean dont bother with the ur pulleys or it wont do that much harm?

You might have no problems at all, but the worst case scenero:

The extra vibration will stress fracture the crank. There'll be a big bang, and the 3.2 l packs up. Not cool....

that crank pulley spins really fast... no harmonic dampner means trouble... try looking for other methods of squeezing out more hp... 55 shot of NOS (probably can run more like 75)? headers? intake? supercharger? there's other ways than basically running a risk with pulleys that have been know to have issues...

OK hypothetically speaking if there are stress fractures in the crank and inevitably the engine blows. Would the manufacture (Acura) warranty the engine. Or would they say that with no harmonic dampener it cause teh problem and that they would not warranty the blown engine?

It'll be the latter. But, if it blew, then if possible, you could change out the pulley for the damper.

But, if that happened, it would be freaking messy!
