PDG blues!!!
PDG blues!!!
there's a pimp daddy cl-S in the same parking lot where i work ,i see it every day.How many wish they got sundancegold that chose a different color and how many that chose gold wish they got a different color???...i think if there where an offwhite or even the parchement opt. for interior i would have gotten it i just dont like the taupe top part of the dash ,and the steering wheel in taupe UGH!but even with the ebb. int. i have regrets
Hmm not to rip the PDG color, but there are only 900 of them.. This is 1) an indicator of the CL's overall sales and 2) how much the dealer is doing to promote this color.
Most dealers seem to put the PDG at the very back of the dealership and don't want to promote it. The only good promoting of the PDG CLS was in Tacoma, WA where the car sits higher than other cars on the lot, next to the freeway...

I think the success/failure of Sundance Gold is multifactorial. #1: it is such a unique color that most people are afraid to buy it. (think about it: most people are lemmings afraid to be an individual.) #2: therefore, dealers aren't promoting it. I think Acura only made 900 of them on purpose: a promotional color to get people to notice a fairly uninspiring profile. (Ashamed to admit it but I have confused a Solara for a CL-P.) #3 is the overall lack of visibility for CL's in general. Most people I work with really aren't familar with CL's.
That being said I'm on my second Sundance Gold car (after totaling my first). It is a very polarizing color: everyone either loves it or hates it BUT everyone *does* have an opinion. I think the biggest reason dealers had a hard time selling it is because so many people are afraid of their friends questioning the choice. Had a controversial color been offered in a more expensive (and exclusive) car, no one would question it. Anyone who is successful enough to buy an 80+k car usually is questioned about his/her decisions. (Meaning that those people are usually successful b/c of questionable and sometimes risky decisions.) At least that's my $.02. --SVR

All I know is that when I was first introduced to the CL on Acura's website in april of 2000 I was quite fond of it in the black that I designed. Now, when I drove past my dealer and saw the PDG on display I was horrified and did not even think about the CL until the middle of May when I was bored and decided to pop in for a look. Today, I can stomach the color a bit more, but I just can't bring myself to say I like it.
PDG is the hottest color out there. I got to admit it wasnt my first choice but I wouldnt trade it for any other except maybe blue(but I highly doubt it).
My car is my Golden HO, My gold biotch. The only things I wish it had when I bought it are AWD and 6 speed and for that I regret I didnt get the S4. But hey I didnt have $40000 for it.

I think PDG is the best color for this car! When I was shopping for my CL, I asked if they had the Sundance Gold and the dealer said, "That bright thing? You would need sunglasses to look at it!!!" Unfortuntately, no one had this color, so I decided to get the silver (probably the most neutral color). Then Acura decides to offer the Aegean Blue and that really upset me! I would have chosen the blue over silver any day. But the PDG is such a unique color and it would definitely turn heads, as people would ask, "What car is that?"
I've only seen two here so far in so cali. I wish I had bought mine early enough..I could have had that color.

I just bought my PDG this month after obsessing over it for a year. I have always liked the color (of course I'm also color blind
) The reactions so far have been 60/40 in favor of it. Looks a little too much like honey though, it atracts flies

But, on the matter of PDG: After over one year of ownership, and with other auto-makers offering 'similar' color options, I still am thrilled over my decision to buy the PDG. And, it most certainly still turns heads around and around!!
Yes, it does look BEST in bright sunshine/moonshine where the 'depth' (if we can even use that term with our 'thin' paint) of the color is magnified and the metallic shines.
Otherwise, it looks a little "blah." So, it's not a surprize that it sells well in AZ or other sunny states. How about CA?? Any 'leftover' PDG's out there??
I also like the fact that it is a unique color, similar in nature to the 'Barbados Yellow' of the 1989 Prelude Si that I had in years past. And, with less than 900 (a moment of silence for those that are taking up space at some junkyard,
) around, they are rare indeed. Never gonna give mine up, never, NEVER!!!
Enough!eyeguy: Better luck with your 2nd PDG. Drive safely buddy.
I considered no other color....always loved Volvo's Saffron Metallic on the C70 and V70R wagon, Sundance Gold is essentially the same color.
Many of the Sundance Gold cars were sold at the cars introduction or soon after.....it was the launch color, and died soon after from lack of interest.
The color is great, but I would probably get rid of it for a Blue Type S (6spd).

Hope this CL works out better. I am worried about the build quality though. Especially since I bought this one as opposed to the lease of the previous one.
Can you believe they totaled this car?http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=183732&uid=45257
Also, after reading about the paint process and my experience for over 12 mos, I think that PDG has a better pqint quality. I had no paint chips or anything. Anyway, (most importantly) I am happy to be a part of the CL family again. Plus I notice that the brakes on my new car are better than my old one. Hmmm. . . --SVR

I really like the PDG now, but when I was buying I was talked out of it by the salespeople who said it will be hard to sell used. I also was taken by the fact that they could not move them, and PDG was offered at special prices. Doe PDG comes with tan or black interior, or both?
And now I would much rather have a pdg then Silver cause silver is wayyy tooo bland.

I'll admit, when I first looked at getting a CL-S, my first color choice was black. The dealer asked me how I felt about the PDG. I said, at first, no f'n way. That car just doesn't look right. Then he showed me the price they would sell the car for. All of a sudden, the color looked a lot better (FYI, I paid $27,498 for the car, non navi). Almost everyone I talk to thinks it is an awesome color, very unique and original. But you either love it or hate it. I'll tell you what, you can put as many coats of Zaino that you want on any other color, and you still won't get the attention that the PDG CL-S gets.
Later!!!!
Later!!!!
Love it, Love it LOVE IT! Can't go wrong with the PDG! Just got the Pro-kit's and it's even more of a babe. (Really liked the butterscotch similie (sp?).
It's is a polarizing color..though only one person has not liked the color, and she hasn't seen on in person yet so far as I know).
